Marathon Tournament Replays is a collection of recorded multiplayer films from organized Marathon tournaments, the kind that turned Bungie's 1994 Macintosh shooter into one of the earliest competitive online communities. Each replay is a film file the engine plays back from a player's point of view.
What's inside
Replay films capturing tournament matches between top-ranked Marathon pilots, viewable from any participant's perspective using the original game engine.
How replays work
Marathon's films record player input rather than video, so the engine re-simulates each match deterministically. The result is a tiny file that reproduces a full game at native quality.
Requirements
Requires the original Marathon application to play back. Films are tied to the engine version and map set used during the tournament.
Historical interest
The replays document early competitive FPS culture on the Mac, predating widespread internet play and Quake's demo scene.
