BnetTrak is a Classic Mac utility for tracking activity on Blizzard Entertainment's Battle.net online gaming service, the matchmaking and chat backbone behind titles such as StarCraft and Diablo. It was distributed as Mac shareware during the late-1990s peak of Battle.net play.
Purpose
The tool monitors Battle.net presence and activity from the Mac side, letting users keep tabs on friends or channels without keeping a full game client open in the foreground.
Context
Battle.net's Mac clients shipped alongside StarCraft and Diablo II, and a small ecosystem of third-party Mac utilities grew up around the service to fill gaps the official client did not address.
Distribution
BnetTrak circulated as a BinHex-encoded shareware download typical of Mac internet utilities of its era, aimed at users on System 7 through Mac OS 9.
