Freeling Havannah is a Classic Mac implementation of Havannah, the abstract connection game invented by Christian Freeling in 1979. Played on a hexagonal board, the game challenges two players to form one of three winning structures: a ring, a bridge, or a fork connecting board edges.
The game of Havannah
Havannah is part of Freeling's family of original abstract games, which also includes Dameo, Grand Chess, and others. The hexagonal board is typically size 8 or 10 per side and produces deeply tactical play resistant to simple heuristics.
Mac implementation
This release brings Havannah to the Classic Mac, providing a board interface and rules enforcement so two players can sit down without printing a board or tracking captures by hand.
Abstract games on the Mac
The Mac shareware catalog has a rich tradition of abstract strategy ports, from Go and Hex clients to lesser-known Freeling designs, often built by enthusiasts rather than commercial publishers.
Preservation status
Preserved as a small but historically interesting fan port that documents both Freeling's design work and the Classic Mac's role as an abstract gaming platform.
