Seismic Duck 1.6 by Arch D. Robison is an educational game that visualizes seismic waves travelling through the ground to teach how geologists prospect for oil. Players experiment with sound sources and sensors, then race to help a duck locate oil reserves before going broke. The game scales from grade-school accessible to challenging for working professionals.
How it plays
The screen displays sound waves rippling underground in real time. The player triggers shots and reads the returning signals, then commits to drilling locations. Easy levels are forgiving enough for children, while hard levels demand genuine interpretation skills.
New in version 1.6
This release adds multiple window sizes, a frame rate throttle for fast Macs, and squiggle-style seismograms in addition to the previous waveform display.
System requirements
PowerPC Macintosh, at least 256 colors, 8 MB of free memory, and Mac OS 7.1 or later.
Author and licensing
