Chaos is the umbrella name for a family of small classic-Mac arcade games posted to the Info-Mac archive, including ChaosVR, ChaosCastle, and ChaosGalaga. They share a no-frills, shoot-everything ethos: the player flies, runs, or scrolls through level after level, blasting enemies and grabbing falling bonuses for extra firepower, with saved games and incremental difficulty along the way.
ChaosVR
An arcade flier in which a lightning-fast ship races through a texture-mapped fractal 3D world with full six degrees of freedom, ultra-realistic fog, and PowerPC acceleration. Needs a 256-color Mac with 4 MB free RAM.
ChaosCastle
A shoot-em-up by Nicky (Nicky@GameBox.net) where the goal is simply to destroy everything without dying. Falling coins and bonuses unlock new zones and scrolling levels, with saved games and play in color or dithered black and white.
ChaosGalaga
A lean black-and-white shoot-them-up by Nicolas Juillerat: 100% OS-friendly, runs in a Finder window, supports more than a hundred sprites at once, and weighs in at only 35 KB on disk.
Distribution
Each Chaos title is distributed as a BinHex-encoded archive in the Info-Mac game/arc directory. Decode with BinHex 4.0 before running.
