French torch Liberty replica Troubleshooting 50 posts Mar 27, 2003 — Mar 31, 2003
BORDEAUX, France - Vandals in this southwest Bordeaux torched a replica of the Statue of Liberty and cracked the pedestal of a plaque honoring victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

The crowned head of the 8-foot-tall statue was blackened by fire and its eyes were marked with red paint, apparently to symbolize tears of blood, an official at the mayor's office said.

The statue and the Sept. 11 plaque are beside each other in a square near the city center.

How petty.
LOL what is your point. Slow day for finding material to start a flame war with?

And if it was the US doing it to the Statue of Liberty, you'd be ranting how us American pigs are a disgrace!

Come on Logic, this wasn't meant as a flame. Just posting information.

Ach crap, and there I was thinking that you'ld made improvements in the institution you and snotnose live in. I suppose you're going to blame it on the medication again, but when you're back from dribbling on the couch, I think it'd be appropriate to point out to you that Nicko and Logic are in fact two seperate people. I hope this will help you regain a solid footing in reality again. In any case, we're all holding thumbs for you.

Are you a bit obsessed with Logic?

I can't see that he's posted in this thread. Maybe you meant to write Nicko?
Derailed before it even got started. It's almost like.... Magic!

Yeah that's pretty sad. Of course it could just be a few young punks who were bored and did not know any better.

I am actually surprised the one in Paris has not been vandalized yet. There is a deep discontentment amongst the muslim population in France (~10% of the population, not negligible) regarding this war.

You can be sure this, amongst other things had a influence in the decision to not takepart in the war.
But yeah, that vandalism is pretty sad, albeit not reflecting of 99+% of the French population.

Villa
So, they vandalize a replica of an object given to the U.S. by their country?
Not "they". Not "The French" like Zimphire in his inimitable style implied. A couple of young idiots with too much wine in their bellies and nothing better to do.

Well I better post so he can say I posted in this thread.

OK, Zimph. Have your flamewar. This is going to be my first and hopefully last post in this thread.
Totally off topic - but that's probably a good thing!

Can I ask Logic (and now Zim) what their sig graphics say?

Yeah, my Arabic is so rusty... I'm not even good at math.

Are you a Muslim?

Not hardcore, but yes.

Don't drink, don't eat pork etc. Pray sometimes, think of it as meditation. Let's say I'm as much muslim as most are Christians.

I can't read any arabic, so don't worry. You are not the only one

I don't drink either - but it's more of a weight control issue!

As far as being a "cafeteria Muslim" - at least you have a faith.

I'm not sure what I believe. The past couple of years (since 9/11) I've started to believe there is a higher power, before I didn't. However, I don't really subscribe to any organized religion.

Sometimes I do read the Tao, but I'm not a Buddist. Read the Bible too, but don't think I'm a Christian. Read Malcolm X's autobiography - understand some of the Islamic faith. And I like bagels, but not lox, so I must not be Jewish.

Yes, derailed by the Trolls that can't stand any information against their "cause'

Here is to all the trolls that derailed the topic.

It was well deserved.

Now no fighting, there is enough awards to go out to all the trolls.

You mean they weren't French?

So it's ok to lump all of the US in the Freedom Fries incident (which was done regularly in here) but not this?

BTW I wasn't trying to say ALL the French was doing this, obviously.

Stop starting strawman arguements Mastrap.

When have I ever blamed anything I said on medication?

You want a room next to me and snotnose? Looks as if you need it as well.

What a lame personal attack theolein. I really didn't expect this coming from you.

So two wrongs make a right?

What is funny is, they destroyed the plaque honoring the people that died 9/11

As if any of them had anything to do with this war.

Smart ones indeed.

So why didn't you say?

"French vandals torch Liberty replica"

See the difference?

Stop posting obvious flamebait, Zimphire.

You know, what, they might not have been French either. ~10% of the population in France is not French.

And yes there certainly is a difference between a few vandals trying to make a point by attacking a replica of the Statue of Liberty in a smaller southwestern town in France, and the elected, supposedly educated and wise lawmakers on the United States Congress changing the name of French fries to Freedom Fries, because you know what, well thay do not like the French.
The French thingy is a sad intolerant and ignorant act by a few young idiots who represent nobody but themselves, whereas the fries name change is a sad intolerant and ignorant act by a few who represent the people of America...

Zimph, you can not seriously believe everything you write, can you?

I believe you are being a bit petty Mastrap. Those people were French. They did the vandalism.

Darn, I missed it (Zimph being on my Ignore List): ZIMPH discovers "strawman"!!
Heh funny, the people that are complaining about me posting flame bait (which it wasn't) are the ones that usually are doing the baiting.

How ironic.
