I understand what he meant, but the fact it "went over my head" wasn't because I somehow just didn't get it, but because the poster of said comment wasn't very good at making his joke come across.

I have asked 10 people in my AIM list, all of them didn't see what went over my head either.

Timo just didn't do a good job getting his "joke" across.

In forums like this, one cannot view body language, nor facial expressions, nor tone of voice. You have to be a bit more obvious. You know a here and a there.

I thought it was pretty damned funny without explanation. I don't think your response indicated that you got it...with or without humor.

Smileys are cheating. If you say (write) something it stands on its own, or should. A smiley doesn't make it better or worse, funny or unfunny. If you need visual cues to tell you to look for a joke, I feel sorry for you. I guess that you must be the sort of person that needs canned laughter on a sitcom to tell you when to laugh. (as must be your AIM buddies).

And 'I understood what he meant' is apparently an outright fib - If you understood, then your complaints are facile, if your complaints are valid, then you patently didn't understand.

I don't know Timo from a hole in the ground, but the pun was obvious to all.
