"The Bible Code" on The History Channel

"The Bible Code" on The History Channel Development 40 posts Jan 2, 2004 — Jan 3, 2004
So I'm watching this show cause nothing else is on and I'm not tired and it's pretty creepy. Here's a synopsis:

A long time ago, people thought the Bible contained "codes" that would predict the future. Sir Isaac Newton was one of these people, but back in the day it was very hard to find these codes, but now with computers, the computer does all the work for the code-breakers.

Here's how the code works: Imagine looking at a sheet of text and skipping a certain number of letters and finding words in that text. Here's an example:

i am a good person really Bill, I am! Even Joe reads it. Exile will come to those who wait.

If you start with the first letter, and then skip 6 letters, and then choose that letter, and then skip another 6, ect. you will arrive with "idrivex" if I did it correctly.

In the Bible, using this sort of coding, they have found a number of things, here are some of the things they found:

In the same 'Matrix' (about a page worth's of text) they found:

Hitler
Man of Evil
Slaughter
World War II

In another they found:

Japan
Atomic Holocaust
They will strike back

In another they found:

World War II
Japan
England
US
Germany
Italy
France

They list countless other 'codes' found in the Bible. From watching the program and them showing all of the codes they have found, it's almost hard to dismiss this. If it was just a coincidence, it would be a statistical miracle. What do you think of the Bible Code?
The same works with a copy of 'War and Peace'. Seriously. It's been tried.
I'm quite sure it's been proven time and time again that the same "Bible Code" theory can be applied to any large text.

Here, look at this hidden message I found in your post:

I'm quite sure that there are more hidden codes in this piece of text, as there are with damn near any of sizable length.
a=6
b=12
c=18
etc.
add up the letters of COMPUTER and you get...

but seriously, "If you look for it, you will find it"
Considering English isn't even the language the Bible was written in, I wouldn't put too much thought into it.
Yeah I am now just watching this part of the show now, this guy grabbed a copy of Moby Dick, and found:

Kennedy
He Shall be Killed
In a Car

He also found Princess Di's death too.

Now we are getting to the part where the Bible will predict Armageddon....They've found these together:

Twin
Towers
Airplane
Two Times

-----

Building Melting
Before Everyone's Eyes

------

Bin Laden
Murderer
Terror Incident
Thousands of People
The Twin Terror Attack

-------

Spaceship
Columbia
Consumed by Fire
They will Mourn

(The interesting part about this last code is that the words are arranged in the matrix to look like an airplane and where the left wing of the plane would be is the phrase "Consumed by Fire" indicating the wing that caught fire)

------

Saddam
Hussein
Destroyed

------

Earthquake
LA, California
2010

------

Earth Annihilated
2012
A great Comet

------

In The End of Days
Smallpox will rein

------

Al Gore
President
He Thinks He Will Be

------

Well I don't know what's worse, staying here in Los Angeles for the big earthquake in 2010, or living through it only to be "annihilated" by a comet 2 years later. Maybe I'll just get smallpox.
the "Bible Code" sounds like Yoda

They do all the coding in hebrew and then translate the hebrew into English after the code is found.

That's pleasant.

The Bible was written in Greek. The Torah was written in Hebrew. That said, I'm sure both languages have evolved enough since that piece of crap was written down 1700 years ago that if the code was applied to the original languages it would make even less sense that it does now.

Hebrew has a word for California?

Maybe it's identical to the word that means 'overrun by mexico' ?

Nice, I didn't even think about that. I'm sure (and I have no clue) that Hebrew has letters that spell words, and maybe those letters can be translated to English and it spelled California?

Who knows, I'll leave California for a year in 2010, just to make sure.

Sounds like Yoda the "Bible Code" does, you mean, right?
Sounds like bull to me.

Yoda Code:

Me thinks bible code is bull.
It is total BS. While the pro-Bible code idiots out there say that it is statistically improbable that these words would be found together if they weren't deliberate, they do things that throw statistics out the window.

1.) The look for specific word groups. Once found, the computer looks for all other known words around them.

2.) They use arbitrary spacing until a word grouping is found. Then they regroup the letters to fit what they find. What kind of code is that?

They do work in the "original" language of the Bible. But what's hebrew for "Kennedy" or "Hitler"?

There are some good debunking sites on the net that will make the Bible code thumpers look like idiots. The Moby Dick predictions is one of them.

I take offense that they call them predictions. There is no prediction in a bunch of massively hidden words. There is only word association.

And the theories on how the code got put in is also pretty stupid. Antyhing that resorts to aliens can't be trusted.

Hebrew isn't the original tongue for some of the Old Testament, there's Aramaic too. What they are using a codex which dated back to less than a thousand years ago, well after any Biblical era.

Then we also have to contend with what the Patriarchs spoke, was it Hebrew? doubtful, the oldest hebrew inscriptions don't go back to the time, of someone like Moses (if he existed), much more like around a thousand years BCE. So at best, they are using the books of the bible which were compiled under Ezra, and later on, more parts were added, and added again, such as the book of Daniel. So how can a code be written into a book which has been through so many human hands, moulding it to suit the needs of the day.

It's all nonsense, and this code has been debunked so many times.
also, the bible has been edited by other monks and written and translated and it's a bit more convoluted than the ORIGINAL (if there really was 1 original gold master)
Yep, the "Bible Code" is bunk, though I've had some professors who believe in it (it's a Baptist college, what do you expect?).

Here's another that was found in Robert Jordan's "The Great Hunt" (the title proves to be rather coincidental), part of the Wheel of Time book series:

"When the towers fall
a bush will catch fire
the killers will then
have no place to hide"

Just proves, you can make any large body of text say anything.
It is true that the Bible was actually written in Hebrew and Greek. So to get a true interpretation you need to use both languages and history. It shows us hor to live our life. Both the Old & New Testament all point to Jesus.

Well, that's four prophesies that say the world will end in 2012.

One of Nostradamus' predictions says something to the affect that the world will be destroyed by a sword from the heavens in 2012.

The Mayan calendar (which is cyclical) runs out in 2012, I believe on Dec. 23, don't remember the exact day anymore.

There's also some Chinese prophesy that makes a similar prediction, though I don't know the specifics of this one.

Personally, I can't wait to see what happens.
personally, i'm not afraid of death

when i dream of death sometimes, i always take it like a man.

in terms of the afterlife, whatever happens if i made the right choice in religion (or lack there of)...i know that there will be billions in the same situation as me. if let's say the Jews were "right", i'll be suffering with all the other billions who lived good lives but failed to worship this one particular way.
Yeah, I don't know what's up. I keep hearing from quite a few prophets and religions that the world will end on 2012. Man, it could be true. Sh*t, guess I'll have to wait until 2012 to find out.
2012 is gonna suck.

I dunno, the stuff that the prophesies predict could also be explained by the development of faster than light travel and/or time travel.
What do you expect to find in a document with over 700,000 words? Anything you want.
I found a code once.
