Resurecting Old Topics Software 23 posts Aug 6, 2004 — Aug 6, 2004
There seems to be a rash of old threads being bumped by new posts. I'm curious what everyone's opinion is about what's going on and if anything should be done about it.
bump this in about a year and ask me then.
Let old threads die. Don't clutter up whatever was said in some old thread by having people say "OH WAIT WHATS GOING ON IN HERE I DON'T GET IT". Instead, just let them be.

... i never really was that good with multiple choice.
Yes, it's a good way to extend a topic without requiring creating a new thread
Thread bumping is irritating no matter how old the post is. Doing that just to get it on the top again is like internet rudeness...
If the old threads were archived on a regular basis, this wouldn't happen. Oh to be an admin...
No: they're dead for a reason...
Yes: prevents timeline...

Can't decide

i say if it ain't locked, it's open territory.

Well, alot people constantly say "Use Search"...and so if people are indeed using "Search" to find old threads and have questions about something in that thread, I suppose I can't blame them resurrecting it...

Besides people...retro is in.

There's a big difference between revisiting a topic after a few months, and going back 3 years.

I agree, and that's why I totall agree with you that we need better archiving methods.

I am wistful for the nostalgia we used to have...

If the topic only died because everybody on the forum had already replied in it: A bump is a good thing, provided it has been dead for a while. Because if the topic was good enough to warrant a good bit of participation, there have probably been many people join the forums since the topic died that would find interest in it as well.

If the topic died because it sucked: A bump would be a bad idea because a new member would have just as little interest in it.
gives a chance for new perspective for an old discussion, this is not a good idea, so it should be lockinated as soon as it shows up
i think its retarded.

i also think that people that make new threads about something that has already been said, then some loser comes along with a thread from 3 years ago about the same thing, and goes "THEREZ ALREDY BEN A TOPIC ABOOT THIS!!!!1" people like that should die.
OMFGBBQ started resurrecting topics first.

I checked all the boxes.
I think if it's relevant, then let it go. If someone has a question you might not have to repeat yourself, or see some moron link an old topic, then get mad when the guy posts in that topic, it' sjust a message board
