GNOME microGUI theme?

GNOME microGUI theme? Development 28 posts Feb 18, 2003 — Feb 20, 2003
Anyone else like it? Can someone make it for OS X?

Thanks,

fats
I also like this theme a lot and have thought about doing the port... maybe I'll get around to it sometime, if there was enough interest.

For those unfamiliar with the interface here's a preview:

When I'm designing, I want a simple yet not totally boring interface, and this microGUI seems just about right.

I'd even chip in some of the porting, even though I've never made an OSX theme...

Isn't this QNX?
Yes Dace, you're NOT crazy, that was QNX. Originally that is what it looked like but after a SEVERE screenshot leak they had to change the UI because a lot of themes were already out for every OS you can find that copied their 'unique' UI.

I've got a MacQNX theme stashed around here somewhere yet to be finished...

Looks something like this...

But in OS X-ish layout.

I dunno if it'll ever get totally finished but I MAY try to get it going again.

Is this image:

QNX or microGUI?

I'm confused. What do you mean about a screenshot leak?

fats
Be it a UI for GNOME or what it IS and always will be the original UI for QNX.

It was leaked before a release and the UI team had to develop something new. I'm not too sure that the screenshot I posted is the current incarnation of QNX but it was the replacement for what you posted if I have my info correct.

edit, removed pictures... see below

Only parts in consideration here are the titlebar and widgets, everything else is part of ChosenOS as I just took a screenshot of my Finder as a template.

... Personally, I think this theme would fit perfect ontop of Swiz's current SS ChosenOS theme by just doing the titlebar, menubar, boot/login panels, and maybe scrolls, etc. So, I nominate Swiz for the this theme and suggest he just build microGUI ontop of his Swizcore Studio take on ChosenOS. But I guess that's just my time-saving (read: lazy) opinion

Looking at these mockups again I don't really think either of them look right for OS X... does anyone remember how Maury McCown did the pattern and widget layout on his OS 9 theme (seems to have pulled the images from his site, but I'm pretty sure it was him that did it [macqnx]...) I can't remember if he placed all of the widgets on one side or left them in the standard OS 9 position, and which direction he did the silver-to-blue pattern. What do you guys think? I'm not so sure this theme would look right in the end, too many adjustments are necessary just to design the titlebar.
I think the first one (with more blue) looks better.
Version A, the top one with more blue.

Dig it.

It works. It's a shift from the original, but a nice one.

fats
Alright, looks like version A is the better choice... here it is again but I've corrected my blue gradient to match the original better.

I like this one better too. I like that the toolbar widgets are a little softer. I always thought they were too harsh in the original.
Y not stay true to the OS theme and do it the way it was shown earlier in the REAL theme?

Just a thought.

The widgets are too tiny. I'll have some hard time trying to click on the correct area.

The shadow underneath the widgets should be 90 degree.
Alright, i made the widgets larger and reversed the drop shadows to the original QNX direction (but not 90)...

THat's sweet. looks funny with OS X icons tho.
This was the predominant theme on my Mac back in OS 9... I miss it dearly. If it gets ported, keep it the best way: the old way.
i used to love the qnx theme under 9...
I'm glad this might happen. Good suggestions all around.

One question, none of the mockups include the /dir name in the title bar. Is that an option or just missing from the mockups?

Looking forward, a cool variation would be to remove the blue, and just make an all grey version.

Smoove.

I think it's just missing from the titlebar, you can't get rid of it in the finder.
looking at the screen shot makes me ask a question.

I know theres no outline around the window, but there is in the screen shot. I know TinkerTool does (did) this but it's grey in the screenshot. Is there a way we can get a differrent outline color? I think black would look good with a few themes, especially this QNX one. Is that something someone can do, or only tinkertool if possible in X.2?

TinkerTool doesn't, but doesn't Windowshade?

NICE! It's simple yet there's a splash of pizzazz.

Yea, windowshade does do it. But, can someone make it where the outline color can be changed? Maybe I'll email the haxie freaks over at unsanity.

I think the original darker blue looks better. This blue seems a bit washed.
not to be a total nitpicker, but it was never 'the' gui for QNX; it was the GUI for QNX's amigaOS, and when the screenshots were leaked, Amiga changed their plans pretty quickly.

(then again, Amiga Inc changes their plans every 6 weeks).

It's nice, but i like 'real QNX' better.
nitpicker!
