About
Are you ever annoyed from inadvertently striking the caps lock key and then looking up to see a string of capital letters that you must delete and retype? Or, like most of us, are you right handed and envy the Lefties who can mouse around and delete with their other hand? Well, here is your solution! No CapsLock, ` Del is a keyboard layout that redefines two keys on your keyboard. First, it disables the caps lock key- just forget about it. Second, it redefines the ` key to serve as a delete key (the original delete key remains unaffected, as does shift-` , the ~ character). On most keyboards the ` key is on upper left; thus with No CapsLock, ` Del active, we right handers can manipulate the mouse with our right hand, and easily delete with our left hands. I quickly found this advantageous, particularly when working with graphics. installation: Simply drag the No CapsLock, ` Del file over the System Folder and the Mac OS will place it in your System file (option-drag it to retain a copy of it). Next, open your Keyboard Control Panel and select No CapsLock, ` Del as a selected keyboard layout. If you have Mac OS 8.x, a keyboard icon will display on your menu bar from which you can alternately select keyboard layouts, for example if you really need to use caps lock or ` character, reselect the standard U.S. layout. To dispense with the keyboard icon on the menu bar, deselect all other keyboard layouts in the Keyboard Control Panel except for No CapsLock, ` Del. shareware: I expect others may find this keyboard layout as helpful as I have, so I decided to share it with others. If you agree that it speeds your work and saves miles of finger travel, then please put a couple of dollars in an envelope and send it to the address below - that'll buy a fresh cup of coffee to keep me programming for another day.
