The old Voodoo 5 cards produced for the Mac just before 3dfx went bankrupt had a DVI as well as a VGA connector. Has anyone perchance tried connecting a current DVI monitor to one of these? Does it work and what resolutions are possible? (NB: I know, I know, they run only under OS8-9.)
I suspect that connection to the VGA port would likely give a max. resolution of 1600x1200 on a typical 20" multisync crt monitor. However, according to the best information I can find, at http://www.3dfx-altar.com/content/voodoo5/ , the Voodoo 5 PCI was capable of supporting monitor resolutions up to 2048x1536 (it came with 64MB of video RAM). So I am wondering if it might be possible to to drive a current widescreen DVI monitor with one of these beauties.
I have a voodoo 5 (currently in service in an 8600) but no DVI monitor to test with it. Can anyone advise, before I even contemplate spending any money, whether or not it would be worth my while pursuing this further?
