That Access Fault debugger error has me thinking it may still be a RAM issue. 40mb may be too much and 8 is probably too small. Can you get it to 32? I have seen it running on other machines so I know it is possible to get it going. Having said that, when I had too much RAM in mine it stalled much earlier in the boot. Did you remember to copy over the System file into your 7.1.2 boot folder?
I'd love to give it a try but until I can find something like a 6100 I can't do anything. Also still hoping for a copy of D9 (or any others).
As for those pictures, I think I recognise them now. They're from the "Mac OS 8 Unleashed" CDROM (note the "exit" button on the bottom left of each pic). They may be mockups or they could be from earlier functioning builds. I did get the feeling that D11E4 lacked a lot of stuff that was in earlier builds (Appearance control panel and Find for a start) so while it may be the latest one available, it's not the best.
