Super Mandelzoom is black and white and also runs on PPC. You can see the difference in performance.

I think just for a quick demo PowerXplorer (http://archives.math.utk.edu/software/mac/fractals/PowerXplorer/) is the best, because it is simple and you very much see the difference. It's from Alessandro Levi Montalcini who is still in Mac business with USB Overdrive.
End of 80's / beginning of 90's was really the fractal / mandelbrot super age on all platforms. I remember it quite well and I don't know why I initially did not find much software.
