Have you got a solid, short free connection on your repair job? (no criticism intended, just following the technical support script! [:D] ]'> )

Try soldering the matching wire from a spare 50 pin ribbon cable or cable connector to the controller PCB and daisy chain?

If that throws the timing off, split up and splay out 2" of all the wires from a lopped off internal SCSI cable, solder the signal wires to the controller and tie all the alternating ground lines together to make one solid connection to a good grounding point on the HDD.

Start with just the matching wire with a multiple connector internal cable, split-n-splay but only strip and solder the one wire for the first attempt. ;)
