I'm getting ready to do what I've been calling the "Machine Pin Hack" to a couple of boards and I'd like some advice on how to go about getting the best solder joint.

Machine pins are:

___very high quality, reliability and priced alternatives to standard pin/socket connections . .

___they consist of snap-off plastic packaged SIP or DIP rows of lathe turned(?) conical socket/soldertail pins . . .

The "Machine Pin Hack" mates these conical sockets to the soldertail/solder "cones" on the underside of a thru-hole PDS, NuBus, etc. slot or socket connection.

Question:

I've been planning to fill the of the Machine Pin's conical female cones with solder paste and then soldering/re-flowing each connection, mating the solder of the PCB with the solder paste in the machine pin.

Will this method give me a strong, reliable connection for this soldertail to pin conversion? :?:

I have also considered:

___filling the cones with flux and using standard leaded solder.

___tinning the insides of the Machine Pin's cones with standard solder.

___tinning the insides of the Machine Pin's cones with low temperature solder, similar to Chip-Quick.

Any suggestions from experienced rework a/o basic soldering technique gurus would be much appreciated by this soldering noob.
