I have a jackhammer in one of my IIfx systems, so they do run in an 030 machine. The pausing is probably a terminator issue, read up in the manual about how you can set up termination on the card (starts at about page 6). There are 3 termination strips on the card that might have to be removed or installed depending on how you are attaching drives to the card (external, internal, or both).
