Actually, that's exactly what I'm doing in my PowerMac 6100. I've got two female 50pin to 68pin connectors (one of the motherboard and the other on the CD-ROM drive) using a 68-pin SCSI cable.That way I could use one of my 68pin 4GB Compaq SCSI drives and partition it with both Mac OS and MkLlinux and it works great. :)
