Ethernet, the search
So I picked up an Macintosh SE FDHD to get software moved between my pc and both my Macintosh SE's. After replaceing some ram that died after 5 minutes of running its doing all nice, no leaking caps and running stable!
So I currently have: 1 Macintosh SE, 1 Macintosh SE FDHD and 1 400/800K External floppy drive. Due this I'm able to move files from the Macintosh SE to my computer... So I can get MacTCP and all the other software to work. Only... What can I get to connect it to ethernet? I've tried searching on ebay and I didn't find any that are suited for the Macintosh SE, although I'm not sure what to look for. It doesn't matter if its external or an extension card.
Any tips on what to search for? I just want to get IRC working on it

There are PDS Ethernet cards for the Mac SE, though of course they'll be getting harder to find as time goes by. That feature where ebay emails you might be useful.
There were also SCSI Ethernet adapters where were compatible with the Mac SE.
Good luck!

I found half of one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mac-SE-MacCon-SEE-Asante-Tech-P-N-09-00300-61-Rev-A-Apple-/400643429539?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d483594a3
This is the correct board, it's a MACCON SE, but you'll need to find the transceiver portion...

Here's one new in the box but it's pretty expensive:

A SCSI to Ethernet from Asante will work also it's external.

Generally you have to look around for 6 months or so to find one cheap. The external SCSI Ethernet adapters are probably a better deal if you have more then one compact that needs Ethernet (just swap it around as needed). If you just want to move file then maybe using an external ZIP/JAZZ might be more economical.
The last SCSI to Ethernet adapter I saw on eBay went for for about ~200
Is this topic like: Spaceballs, the Movie? lol. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Looks like an en/sc just closed on ebay this morning. Did you look for "en/sc"? Are you sure you did your search right? $26.00 is a sure cry from $200. See this link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asante-En-Sc-10T-/131496952918?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e9dd44456
Also ask for one here as WTB, in the trading post subtopic.
These are the best, because you can use them on *any* vitage mac including and before the beige G3, anything with an external SCSI port - so almost all of them.

Damn, I missed that one.. I didn't search for just en/sc yet, whoops. Followed that search on eBay now.
I'll make a WTB topic here tomorrow too.

That's pretty good! I bet if the seller changed the wording a little he would have made substantially more moneyIs this topic like: Spaceballs, the Movie? lol. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I got it for $25!Here's one new in the box but it's pretty expensive:

WOW! he went from 150 to 25?
Yeah he did, isn't it great?
41 to ship though?
Its ebay's expensive shipping program, shipping to the Netherlands ain't cheap
Okay so it came in and I installed it, only its not completly working... I've installed MacTCP and the orginal drivers that came with it, but there is no sign of life comming from the ethernet cable (my switch detects nothing). The card is not broken, because the included hardware dignostic reports "OK, 8k ram" only the drivers are being problemmatic.
This shows up on boot, what does it mean?

the thing with these is, Ethernet to an 8 mhz machine is just not that great of an experience. I mean heck Ethernet to an 030 machine is questionable/ worth it. I can understand the desire though. but once you get it to work, you will be like oh..cool. and probably shelf it... <--- speaking from experience LOLOLOLOL. The LC475, with a 33mhz re-clock, 128megs of ram, 10krpm HD 73gig, and a easy to find, cheap LC NIC card installed... now that starts to get slightly enjoyable.
I wanted to use it for IRC, which the 8mhz is enough for
True, IRC on the SE/30 is mostly useable
Hi,
Did you get this working?
I have a Dayna pocket SCSI/Ethernet box Im trying to use to connect a Classic to an old iMac G3 - the candy coloured ones.

I've put the project on hold for a while until I have some more time for it. So sorry, Can't help you further.
The iMac G3 should have an intergrated ethernet port though, any reason not to use it?

After installing the software for my ethernet card (Farallon), I could not get my internet to work until I installed Open Transport. Then it was a cake walk.
I was using OS7, and I installed OT v 1.1.2 I don't know if this would be helpfull or not.

Would you have any copy of the OpenTransport disk by any chance?
System7today has it I think.
I do have a copy, but I only have my CC, and I can not figure out how to send it to you.Would you have any copy of the OpenTransport disk by any chance?
Right now I am running 7.6.1. If you can tell me how to format a floppy, I can move open transport to it and then mail it to you.

The machines are joined at a switch. The Classic has the SCSI / Ethernet device and the G3 connects through its own Ethernet port.I've put the project on hold for a while until I have some more time for it. So sorry, Can't help you further.
