Mac Classic II with vertical stripes

Mac Classic II with vertical stripes 68k 7 posts Nov 4, 2011 — Apr 12, 2012
Hi !

I bought this and it worked (start the OS too), but sometimes would not start (screen not tuned on). I decided to clean the motherboard using alcohol and cotton. When I finish this, I turned it on and now always the screen show this stripes (but always turn it on).

Should I wash better motherboard? (soap, water, toothbrush, hair dryer, ...)

Is there a solution for this problem?

Thanks in advance

I put my SE/30's Mobo through the dishwasher w/ a non-oxy soap. It did the trick for cleaning, but you (I, also) will eventually need to replace the caps (likely) causing the problem.

Just went through this same thing on my Classic II. I recapped it and all is well now.

Thanks!! I'll try it this week! and I''ll write about it.

Thanks again!

My Classic II has decided it is time to put in new caps as well. :p

It's interesting how few vertical lines it's showing. Pics online usually show more of the "vertical jail bar" like manugrapevines's.

Hi!, I solve the problem (Firtsly remove RAM Chips, and then ->) cleaning motherboard with soap and water ). Use a toothbrush for it. Then use hair dryer and then insert RAM chips; turno on and MAGIC!. It works for me.

But that's just treating the symptom, not the cause. The root problem is the leaking capacitors and the problem will come back if you only clean the board without replacing the caps.
