Well, I checked in OS9..i hadn't used LW for a few months (the last downloads were dated jan/07...)Indeed, looks as if Gnutella on OS9 is officially dead. It won't connect anymore.

Frankly, for open source developers to disable functionality in classic apps is inexcusable..keep in mind that with the gnutella protocol, all the newer versions of LW would have to have an active block programmed in against these earlier versions.

On the other hand, it's understandable...we'll never end up having a colorless totallitarian world state if programmers , and people in general, keep supporting that pesky 'freedom of choice'....
They may not be actively blocking older versions from connecting. The networking protocol may have changed to use a newer technology that is not supported under Mac OS 9. If it is peer to peer and doesn't pass through a central server, then if someone else using the Mac OS 9 version happens to be online, you would probably be able to connect to them, but I doubt you'll find many people still using it. Maybe some of the 68kmla'ers might be interested in setting up a file sharing network of their own???
