Yeah, the current chime has been "current" since the beige G3s and original iMacs, and in a slightly different form, the 7500 and other contemporaries.

I don't mind actually. I like the fact that it's one of the few things about the Mac that has remaind completely unmodified for so long.

That being said, it would be nice if there were some way to change it, because it is getting a little boring....

Having it come out somewhere other than the built-in speaker, as on the Power Mac G4 and older (maybe the G5s too?), would be nice as well.
 

c
