1 New Features of Apple Media Tool 2.1 Apple Media Tool 2.1 provides new objects, events, commands, and visual effects that you can use in your projects. In addition, this version includes a different Installer, a new engine, and new ways to work with media. This chapter provides an overview of the new features, then explains the new features and how to use them. IMPORTANT Some of the features and procedures described in this chapter replace those described in Getting Started With Apple Media Tool and Apple Media Tool Reference Guide. You should read this chapter for current information about these features and procedures before reading the other Apple Media Tool documentation. 1 What’s new in version 2.1 Apple Media Tool 2.1 includes the following new features: m You use a new Installer application to install the software. The Installer installs only one engine, the AMT Engine, as well as different system software from that installed with the previous version of Apple Media Tool. For more information, see “Installing Apple Media Tool 2.1.” m There are new icons for the applications and files of Apple Media Tool. See “New Icons” for a list of the icons. m You no longer use the AMT Minimal Engine to create titles that do not require QuickTime VR support. Instead, there is now a single engine that automatically provides QuickTime VR support for titles that contain QuickTime VR objects. See “The AMT Engine and Titles With QuickTime VR Objects” for more information about the AMT Engine. m Four new objects allow you to drag a controller over a thumbnail of a picture to view different areas of the full-size picture. See “Picture View Objects” for more information about these objects. m You can use the Application Launcher object and the Launch command to open an application or document, and the Open URL command to open Internet sites from within your title. For more information, see “Opening Applications, Documents, and Internet Sites.” m You can use the Timer object and the On Time event to create timed sequences of actions. See “Timing Events” for more information. m The Picture Scroller, Text, Text Scroller, and Text Field objects offer new features.
