Documentation for Connect Four When you first open "Connect Four" from the desktop, a game window will appear, with Apple, Edit, and Game menus above it. To begin play, just select NewGame from the game menu. The object of Connect Four is to get four pieces in a row, similar to the game of Tic Tac Toe. The difference here is that you are playing on a "vertical" board; you choose which column to place your piece in, and it will fall as far down into that column as the other pieces will allow. For example, look at these two sample boards: In Figure One is the game board for Connect Four. The grey boxes represent "obstacles" in the starting stages of the game. These boxes are placed randomly when you choose NewGame from the game menu. Click in one of the boxes above the main playfield to choose which column you want to play into (see Figure Two for 3 possible moves). Your playing piece (the white box) will fall from the top of the column until it either hits the bottom row, or another playing piece or obstacle. In Figure Three, the computer has made 3 possible responses to your moves. Of course, in actual play, only one move may be made per turn. The game is over when any player gets 4 pieces in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Enjoy it! Robert Eberhardt
