Home Page 3.0 Errata
The FileMaker® Connection Assistant has difficulty processing upper ASCII characters in FileMaker Pro 4.0v 1
database, layout, and field names. Upper ASCII characters are those that include accented characters, ligatures or
other non-standard Roman characters, for example, resume.
Upper ASCII characters affect the FileMaker Connection Assistant in the following ways:
• If the database name contains upper ASCII characters, the FileMaker Connection Assistant is unable to
retrieve the layout or field names.
• If the database name contains only lower ASCII characters and the layout name contains upper ASCII
characters, the FileMaker Connection Assistant cannot display the field names on the specified layout.
If the database and layout names contain only lower ASCII characters and the field name contains upper
ASCII characters, the FileMaker Connection Assistant displays the field name properly, however the
field is incorrectly encoded in HTML with Home Page 3.0 for Windows.
Note HTML pages created in Home Page 3.0 (in the Edit HTML Source mode) or other
HTML editing applications that contain upper ASCII database, layout, and field names
are properly published by the FileMaker Pro Web Companion.
Currently, the best workaround is to avoid using upper ASCII characters in databases that will be used with the
FileMaker Connection Assistant and the FileMaker 4.0v I Web Companion.
If you wish to use upper ASCII characters on your web site, you may:
1. Save a copy of your FileMaker Pro 4.0 database.
2. Change any layout and field names containing upper ASCII characters to lower ASCII.
3. Using the FileMaker Connection Assistant in Home Page 3.0, create a web site that interacts with the
modified file (with no upper ASCII characters).
4. In the Edit HTML mode, manually search and replace any layout and field names containing lower
ASCII characters to the upper ASCII characters.
The resulting HTML with upper ASCII characters can be published by the FileMaker 4.0vl Web Companion and
should display correctly in a web browser.
Important You should always test your web site before publishing on the World Wide Web.
