The Madness of Roland is a very ambitious work, utilizing a lot of new technology, and drawing on several different programs to do its job. Every effort has been made to ensure thatRoland will run on low-end machines, and with minimum memory configurations. However, for maximum enjoyment, we suggest the following: more RAM, a faster CD-ROM drive, a pair of supplementary speakers, or the collector’s edition ofRoland (see below). Any or all of these will enhance your ability to see Roland at his best. POWER TIPS: 1. Holding down the Option key while clicking on the up arrow will always take you to the top of the book. 2. At any chapter top, you can click on the left or right borders to page to other chapter tops. 3. Holding down the Option key while clicking on the left and right arrows inside a leaf will fast forward or rewind the sound. 4. The colored text indicates different types of speech: White - Narration Blue - Thoughts Orange - Speech by the narrator of that leaf Green - Words spoken to the narrator of that leaf; each character speaks in a different shade of green 5. Command "P" will pause or unpause the narration wherever you are. 6. Command "\" will toggle the menu bar on and off. So will the shield icon. 7. Command "F" will give you the find function, as will the magnify icon. 8. Command "B" will take you to the bookmark options; so will the book icon. You can access the map from this feature as well. 9. Command "M" will take you to the map overview of Roland. This is an excellent place to keep track of where you've been, and where you have yet to read. You can go directly to any page just by clicking on the appropriate Roland - READ ME! Page 1 Son, 11. Apr 2010 7:42 Uhr circle on the map. For readers who visit every page of Roland we've created a special treat. 10. Command "L" will take you to the listening options, as will the music note icon. Here you can set the volume, choose from narration, music only, or silence options. Also, you can setRoland to auto-scroll through a leaf, chapter, or the whole book from this menu. 11. Command "?" will take you to "Help". So will the question mark icon. 12. The sun and moon icons take you to layers of textual or visual commentary. They are not intended to illustrate, but rather to enhance your experience. A fuller explanation of these icons can be found in the help section or the Author's Notes under "File" on the menu bar. 13. The "Preferences" menu can be found under "Options" on the menu bar. You will find this very useful, especially if you have already readRoland once. Here you can alter the way the book opens, and where you go when it does. FYI You can run Roland directly from the CD-ROM instead of copying it to your hard drive, but you will not be able to save any preferences or bookmarks. Printing: You must set your printer to Portrai…
