Installing PortShare Pro
Place the PortShare Pro control panel into the Control Panels folder on your disk. If
you have the ARA (Apple Remote Access)AND/OR Open Tranport software
running on this machine, place the PortShare Task background application into the
Extensions folder (you do not need this file if ARA is not installed):
Restart your computer. When the MacOS system loads, PortShare Pro displays its
icon on the bottom of the screen.
To share a device connected to some computer, open the PortShare Pro control
panel there, select the serial port to share, click the Shared button and give the
shared device some network name:
Any number of serial ports can be made shared on each computer.
To access a shared device from some other computer, open the PortShare Pro
control panel on that computer and click the New button. Enter the name for the
additional port you want to create (let's say Remote Modem) and click the Create
button:
When a virtual port is created, you can configure it. The list on the right side of the
PortShare Pro control panel shows all the shared devices on your network. Select
the device you want to use:
To have simultaneous access to several shared devices, you may want to create
several virtual ports.
Open a communication application on the computer with the virtual port created.
Open a communication settings window: it should contain a list or a pop-up menu
of the serial ports available. Select the virtual port you have created:
