Read Before You Install
Mac OS X Server
Read the following before you install Mac OS X Server. It includes
information about supported computers, system requirements, and
installing Mac OS X Server.
For more information about Mac OS X Server, visit this Apple website:

Review the included getting started guide (“Mac OS X Server Getting
Started For Version 10.3”) and the Mac OS X Server Support website prior
to installing Mac OS X Server. The book and website contain additional
installation information and instructions on migrating from earlier Apple
server products. The Mac OS X Server Support website is at:
• www.apple.com/support/macosxserver/
For the latest information about this release of Mac OS X Server, refer to
Late Breaking News. To access, connect to the Internet and open Mac OS
X Server Help. To open Mac OS X Server Help, choose Mac Help from the
Help menu in the Finder, and then choose Mac OS X Server Help from the
Library menu.
For information about support, training, and certification programs
available for Mac OS X Server, see the Server Support Products Guide
included with this product.
Supported computers
You can install this version of Mac OS X Server on any of the following
computers:
• Xserve
• Power Mac G5
• Power Mac G4 and Macintosh Server G4
• Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White) and Macintosh Server G3 (Blue &
White)
• iMac and eMac
System requirements
Your computer must have:
• At least 128 MB of RAM; at least 256 MB of RAM for high-demand
servers running multiple services
• At least 4 GB of disk space available
• Built-in USB
Starting installation
Updating your computer’s firmware
You may need to update your computer’s firmware. If so, you must do it
before you install Mac OS X Server. If you see a message that you need to
update your computer’s firmware after you start the Installer, quit the
Installer and restart your computer using your current startup disk.
To find firmware updates for your computer, visit the Apple Software
Updates website:
• www.apple.com/support/downloads/
If you have already started the Installer and see a message that you need
to update your computer’s firmware, quit the Installer and restart your
computer using your current startup disk.
Migrating from an earlier Apple server product
For information on migrating from earlier Apple server products, see the
data migration options and instructions included in the migration guide,
“Mac OS X Server Migration For Version 10.3 or Later.” This book is
available in PDF format on the Mac OS X Server Administration Tools disc
and from this Apple website:

Installing Mac OS X Server
To start installing Mac OS X Server, double-click the Install Mac OS X
Server icon on Install Disc 1 and follow the instructions displayed.
