FASTBACK for the Macintosh — Release 1.02 Update Notes
This package contains release 1.02 of Fastback for the Macintosh. Below is a list of
the major changes and enhancements incorporated into this release:
•Improved Error Handling
During a backup, if FASTBACK encounters a bad disk, it will eject that
disk and prompt you for a new one. When the new disk is inserted, the
backup will continue.
During a restore, if FASTBACK can’t restore a file (even after using Error
Correction Codes), it will allow you to either TRY AGAIN or SKIP the bad
file and continue.
•File and Folder Attributes Restored
FASTBACK now restores a folder’s location, size, and view information as
well as each file’s location within a folder during a full restore.
•Document Launch Improved
FASTBACK now restores information to allow documents to find their
applications after a restore.
•DeskTop File Not Copied
During a backup or restore, FASTBACK has been modified to ALWAYS skip
the DeskTop file automatically — rather than requiring users to exclude
the file, as suggested in the documentation.
•MultiFinder
MultiFinder has not been available long enough to allow sufficient testing
for us to recommend its use with FASTBACK. Although in most cases
FASTBACK will work with MultiFinder, as a general rule backup programs
should not be run with other programs or desk accessories. The other
programs may access the data being copied or have a dramatic affect on
FASTBACK’s timing and performance. In addition, MultiFinder does not
allow FASTBACK to utilize the new feature which restores the document
launch information, and so should not be used when applications are being
restored. For these reasons, the Finder is recommended for use with
FASTBACK backups and restores.

•Compatibility with FASTBACK Release 1.01
FASTBACK is completely compatible with backup sets produced with
Release 1.01, so you can begin to use it immediately with your current
disks. This update release is governed by the terms of the License
Agreement delivered with the original program.
