Read Before You Install Apple Remote Desktop 3
Apple Remote Desktop 3 is a powerful desktop management solution for all your networked
Mac OS X computers. You can automatically distribute software, remotely configure and control
systems, offer real-time online help to end users, create detailed software and hardware reports,
and automate your IT workflows. All without leaving your desk.
Read the following before you install. It includes details on Apple Remote Desktop 3, system
requirements, and known issues.
For a comprehensive guide to using Apple Remote Desktop, please refer to the "Administrator's
Guide" which be found on the installation CD or from the Help menu within the application.
Apple Remote Desktop also provides onscreen instructions. To access onscreen instructions,
choose Help > Remote Desktop Help. Click Contents to browse a list of topics or type your
question in the Search field and press Return.

Guide included with Apple Remote Desktop.

System requirements
This version of Apple Remote Desktop is a Universal Binary that can be installed on computers
with:
• Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later
• Ethernet (recommended), Airport or FireWire over IP network connection

Compatibility with previous versions of Apple Remote Desktop
Apple Remote Desktop 3 will allow you to add Apple Remote Desktop version 2.x clients to your
computer lists and will automatically assist you in upgrading them to the current version of the
client software.
If you choose not to upgrade your clients to the current version, you will have limited backwards
compatibility and will only be able to control/observe computers running version 2.x of the client
software.
Enabling Apple Remote Desktop On Mac OS X v10.3 or later Client Computers
In the Sharing section of System Preferences, select the “Apple Remote Desktop” service and
click Start.
