The Village, one of the Beyond Adventures® by Bill Cameron
Hi there. Thanks for giving The Village a try. I hope you enjoy it. There are
over 150 locations in The Village, with lots of puzzles, hacking and slashing, and
hopefully some humor.
For you tried and true World Builder afficianados, let me begin by saying that
while this is my first released WB adventure, I have done several games before
this one and have a decent amount of experience. I also realize how important
beta testing can be. Nothing is more irksome than bugs. Therefore I have had
several play-testers for The Village and I have done everything I can to ensure
clean play.
SPECIAL NOTE: (Perhaps the most useful information in this document.) In
most of the scenes in this game, the opening line of the description is
something like "You face north," or "You face southeast." The purpose of this
is to give you the direction of the view in the graphics window. It doesn't have
anything to do with the direction you were moving when you entered the scene.
For example, it is possible to move into a scene from the west, but then find
the view in the graphics window is west. This doesn't mean you walked into the
location backward. It simply means the significant visuals are west. So for
orientation purposes, I provided the "You face wherever" lines.
The reason I'm harping on this is that some of the beta testers were confused
by the "You face..." lines until I explained to them what I've explained here.
Once it was clear, everyone found them very helpful. But enough on that.
Now for the bothersome part:
The Village is Shareware. The registration fee is $15, or $13 plus one double-
sided disk. For your money, you get the current version of The Village. You
also get The Village Sound Library, which includes over fifty sounds. Finally, you
get an automatic 10% discount off any new games which Beyond Adventures
releases. Automatic product release mailings go to all registered owners of any
Beyond Adventure. Right now there are two more World Builder games in
production by associates of Beyond, as well as a bizarre Hypercard game.
Send registration fees to:

(Please make checks or money orders payable to Bill Cameron. Allow a couple
of days for personal checks to clear.)
ANOTHER SPECIAL NOTE: the first reporter of a verifiable bug gets free
registration, with all the perks that includes. Even beta testing isn't perfect, as
is evidenced by MS Word 3.1. Ahem.
Still, many thanks, praises, perks, and free registration to my beta-testers:
Tom Collins Rick Mattox
Anne Bell Chris Brown
Harry Friedman and my tolerant
wife, Sherry, who gets the best perks of all.
Thanks again:
Bill Camer…
