What is VoltaicHD?
VoltaicHD is a program to convert AVCHD video content to a format usable on Macintosh OS X computers.
What is VoltaicHD not?
VoltaicHD is not a movie player or editor.
How do I setup VoltaicHD?
Once you have installed VoltaicHD, open the Preferences window to setup your preferences.
How do I use VoltaicHD?
Open your AVCHD files from the file list window, or drag and drop onto the list area.
Once your files are in the list, just click Start.
A more thorough user guide can be found on our website.
How do I get my movies off my camera?
With AVCHD camcorders, you typically need to connect the camera to your Mac using a USB cable. Once connected and powered on, the camcorder should
appear on the desktop as a new disk. The location of the films on the camcorders disk will vary depending on manufacturer. It is required that you copy the
movies to your Mac's hard-drive before using Voltaic. Visit our website for information on DVD-based AVCHD cameras.
How do I activate VoltaicHD?
Please visit http://store.shedworx.com
Once you have received your activation code via e-mail, start Voltaic and go to the Voltaic->Activate menu option.
What is the Apple Intermediate Codec?
Also refered to as AIC, the Apple Intermediate Codec is a digital film format entirely using I-frames. This means that it is easy to edit your films in real-time. AIC
is the native format for both iMovieHD and Final Cut.
FFmpeg
VoltaicHD uses FFmpeg for part of the conversion process. FFmpeg is used as an external executable and you can find it in the Resources area of the
application contents. You are welcome to replace FFmpeg with a version that you compile up yourself if you like. You can see the build options and SVN
version number of the version of ffmpeg that we supply by double clicking on the ffmpeg file.
Are there requirements?
Yes, and they are as follows:
- Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 (Intel and PowerPC)
- Quicktime 7.3 or later
- Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC comes with iMovieHD and Final Cut)
- A significant amount of disk space.
A 15 MB AVCHD file will result in an ~40 MB Quicktime AIC movie, with an additional ~40 MB temporarily needed for the conversion. A 50 MB AVCHD movie
will result in an ~280 MB Quicktime AIC movie, with an additional ~280 MB temporarily needed for the conversion. We hope you get the idea that a lot of hard
drive space is required.
