Silverlining Release Notes August 1, 1996 This disk contains the latest version of Silverlining, Silverlining Lite, SilverLauncher, TimeDrive, Disk First Aid, the mini-Finder, and documentation files. Please read this entire document as it contains information important to your drive. Scroll to the bottom of this document and click on the button to go to the next section. To go directly to a section, choose the section name from the Contents menu. Keep in mind the following before you begin installation: • You should make a backup copy of the diskette included in this package. Store the original in a safe place and proceed with the installation using the working copy you made. Installing Silverlining To install Silverlining, make a Silverlining Startup Disk for your Macintosh model. See the section "Making a Silverlining Startup Disk" in this file, the Getting Started brochure, or the software manual for details. You need to start up from the Silverlining Startup Disk every time you run Silverlining. Although you can run Silverlining from a SCSI drive, you are more likely to encounter problems when you do this. By running the Silverlining from a floppy drive, the program is isolated from the SCSI bus. Also, you will be able to make changes to any partition on any SCSI drive. Product Improvements for version 5.7 • Support for Terabyte file system (64 bit addressing scheme) which was introduced in System 7.5.2. • Support for 1024, 2048, and 4096 byte per sector drives. This includes new MO drives which have sector sizes larger than the standard 512 bytes. • Improved updating of Finder desktop whenever a volume is unmounted. Drives supported by Silverlining Silverlining is compatible with most hard drives, magneto-optical drives, SyQuest, and other removable media SCSI storage devices that can be used with Macintosh computers. If you have problems with a drive and cannot get Silverlining to initialize it, please make sure that the drive is compatible with Macintosh computers by contacting the vendor or manufacturer of the drive. Most modern SCSI drives are compatible with Silverlining, but there are some OEM configurations of drives that may have custom SCSI settings for workstations or other applications that may not work with Silverlining. Documentation Changes In case you received older versions of the printed documentation, please note the following corrections: 1. Silverlining Lite has replaced Silver Volumes and Silver Control. Silverlining Lite is a program which provides essential Macintosh drive management functions in a convenient control panel.
