5 Important Information About Virtual
Memory and SoftRAID
Some Power Macintosh G3 computers come with a CD containing SoftRAID 2.1.5 software. For
optimal stability and performance when using SoftRAID with your computer, follow the
instructions in this update.
Turn Off Virtual Memory When Using SoftRAID 2.1.5
All Power Macintosh G3 computers come with virtual memory turned on. This setting allows
your computer to use hard disk space as random-access memory (RAM).
You use SoftRAID 2.1.5 to format the computer’s hard disk drives. Formatting options include
striping or mirroring hard disks.
Important Turn off virtual memory when using SoftRAID. An incompatibility between
SoftRAID 2.1.5 and virtual memory can cause data loss.
To turn off virtual memory:
1 Open the Apple Menu, choose Control Panels, and choose Memory.
2 Turn off virtual memory.
3 Restart the computer.
