5300 Booting

I conquested an Asante MacCon during my "forced absence" by the mods, so it's a not very recent. I managed to score it for only $85 as opposed to the close to $200 that they normally go for these days. I saw that price and couldn't let it pass.

My pb5300 always turns itself on automatically as soon as I put the power cord in...I don't have to touch anything - is this because of the dead PRAM battery?

Forced absence? I don't know if I'd call it that, because that's a really big exaggeration. There was a one-week period where you were able to log into the forum and use the private messaging system, but not make public posts, and since then you've had your posting abilities back for three months.

Tangentially, the Maccon was available for almost everything with a slot in the early '90s -- which version have you got? Is there anything special about it that makes it $200 desirable compared to other Ethernet cards?

I always found this to be somewhat of an annoyance, esp when my 3400c is off; and I just want to plug it in to charge it, and it boots up.

My 1400 also did this.

It's the SE/30 version. And yes, I was only forced offline for a week but been too busy lately to check back in. It was actually when I was going to post about the conquest that I found out about the suspension. Lol.

You betcha! It's for the SE/30 and has a PDS passthru connector. SE/30 collectors obsessed with a certain gamba page must be well heeled crazy persons from what I can tell.

Whoops, it would appear it was in the thread title. I searched on the Internet for the card and perused through the manual and couldn't figure out anything special about other than that versions were available for nearly every 68k Mac expansion interface.
