Using >128GB drives on older machines.

In response to a post, the link below I found seems to offer some utilities that will work well in breaking the limit. I haven't had any personal experience with it, but it seems legit, since it IS from OWC.

Thanks. I did have a feeling it wasn't an absolute limit in the ATA chipset. I am kind of sort of almost sure that some *nixen can see the full drive, and I picked up the impression somewhere that OS X could too. I probably got that mixed up with the slave drive thing in the rev1 beiges.

It does look somewhat dangerous though, so I would almost save it unless you can absolutely not find a smaller drive, at all, ever.

Or if you must use it [the utility], then save it as a data drive.

Supposedly this software is popular with Cube owners that cannot install a PCI ATA-133 card in their limited cases... I've never tried it myself, but the reviews seem postive.

At the price I got the drive - $75 AU = $50 US for 160GB - I was prepared to just lose the 30GB or so...

And that $15 price at OWC is only if you buy a drive from them
