Max Payne is Remedy Entertainment's noir third-person shooter, brought to the Macintosh by MacSoft in 2002. You play the title character, an NYPD detective framed for the murder of his partner — on the run through the snowbound streets of New York and gunning for the designer-drug ring that killed his family. The story is told in graphic-novel panels with Max's world-weary narration, and the gunplay is built around Bullet Time: a slow-motion dive that lets you thread a roomful of enemies and watch every round land.
The Mac release is a carbonized PowerPC port of the 2001 PC original, built on Remedy's Max-FX engine. It runs on both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X: Mac OS 9.1 or Mac OS X 10.1.4 or later, a 450 MHz G3 processor, 900 MB of hard disk space, 128 MB of RAM (256 MB under Mac OS X, with virtual memory set to 200 MB), a 16 MB OpenGL 1.2-compatible video card, and CarbonLib 1.4.
