Osmond Tutorial Draft Version corresponding to Osmond PCB Design Version 1.0b2 November 30, 2002 J C Chavez http://www.swcp.com/~jchavez/osmond.html jchavez@swcp.com First Page / J C Chavez / jchavez@swcp.com / Osmond Tutorial Basic Part Manipulation This section lets you become familiar with a few keyboard functions and with using some of the basic part manipulation tools in the tool palette. Lesson 1 - Layers Open the Osmond document Sample1 in the usual way, either by double clicking it, or if Osmond is already running, by selecting it with the Open... command in the File menu. A new window should appear with a simple design as shown below. This design has four resistors (R1, R2, R3, R4) and two 14 pin DIPs (U10, U11). Some of the pads have connecting paths, represented as red lines. The current layer is Layer 1. To go to Layer 2, press the 2 key on the keyboard. Don't hold down the command key or any other modifier keyÑjust press 2. As you can see, Layer 2 is similar to Layer 1 but has no connecting paths. This is a four layer board so you can also go to Layer 3 and Layer 4 by pressing the 3 and 4 keys on the keyboard. Try this now. The other way to visit different layers is to use the popup menu button at the bottom left corner of the window. The popup menu lets you go to Layer 1 through Layer 4 but also lets you visit the front and back Silkscreen layers, the front and back Soldermask layers, and the front and back Auxiliary layers. Try going to different layers with the popup menu. To continue with the next lesson, return to Layer 1. Page 2 J C Chavez / jchavez@swcp.com / Osmond Tutorial Lesson 2 - Zoom Tool The tool palette is the group of buttons at the top of the window. Without clicking the mouse, move the cursor over each of the buttons in the tool palette. As you move the cursor over each tool, a short description of the function of the tool appears in the text field just below the tool palette. Some of these descriptions begin with a single letter in brackets. This indicates that you can select that tool by simply pressing that letter on the keyboard (no command or other modifier keys needed). As you become a power user, you will come to appreciate this feature. However, the normal way to select a tool is to click on the tool button. Let us begin the tools lesson by clicking on the Zoom View button. Note that the cursor now looks like a magnifying glass with a plus in the middle: Try clicking near R1. You will see that the view is magnified and that R1, or whatever point you clicked, is now centered in the window. Now hold down the shift or the option key. The cursor now looks like a magnifying glass with a minus in the middle: With the shift key held down, click near R4. The view is now de-magnified to its original size. However, R4, or whatever point you clicked, is now at the center of the window. You can also use this tool to …

Out of Date Executor 2 Manual 9/19/22 11:38 PM Out of Date Manual Caveat This is a slightly revised copy of the Executor 2 manual that was written in 1996. This manual has many deficiencies, including: Doesn't mention Executor/Win32 Poorly formatted as a web page Emphasizes DOS use Is Black and White Printing information is especially out of date Refers to other out of date documentation Previous to February 28th 2002, the material in this document was part of the 32 page mini-manual shipped with Executor 2.0. Now that it is online, the documentation will be brought up to date. ARDI is currently undermanned, but each time a question is answered via e-mail or phone, ARDI will make some effort to update the documentation. ARDI anticipates hiring a full-time technical writer, but not just yet. Welcome to Executor Thank you for licensing Executor 2. Please review the Executor 2 license agreement printed on the back of this manual. Executor bridges the gap between Macintoshes and PCs, allowing your PC not only to read and write Macintosh files but to run many Macintosh applications. With Executor you can use Macintosh high- density floppies and CDs. You can also create simulated Macintosh volumes on your PC to hold Macintosh applications. If your PC has a SCSI adapter, it can even read and write external Macintosh hard drives. Executor 2 is the first mainstream release of Executor. Most PCs run the DOS or Windows operating system, so this manual is written primarily from an Executor/DOS user's perspective. Most material contained in this manual will also apply to people running the less common Linux operating system. If you do not know what Linux is, then you can comfortably ignore any mention of Executor/Linux. The end of this manual contains a chapter of Linux specific information. If you're using either of those two operating systems, please be sure to read the relevant operating system specific chapter in addition to reading the rest of this manual. Executor 2 uses no software written by Apple Computer, Inc. That means Executor 2 will not run the Macintosh Finder. Because ARDI has only rewritten a subset of the MacOS, Executor 2 has other limitations, including a lack of support for serial ports and for networking. Executor/DOS can't print to any printer except a PostScript printer, although it can print to a postscript file. Executor/DOS and Executor/Linux have only limited sound support. System 7 support is still somewhat limited, and some Macintosh features (QuickTime, INITs, CDEVs, and anything from System 7.5) are not supported. Hardware limitations of the PC floppy controller prevent the use of 800K floppies. Within these restrictions, though, Executor should run many, but not all, of your Macintosh applications. The web site http://www.ardi.com/ contains a compa…

TABLE OF CONTENTS The Story of Lester Knight Chaykin 2 Controls & Menu Options .4 Getting Started 6 First Scene Walk-through 7 Hints 9 Credits 10 Save Game Passwords 11 MACPLAYTM A DIVISION OF INTERPLAY PRODUCTIONS OUT OF THIS WORLD THE STORY OF LESTER KNIGHT CHAYKIN T he laboratory was engulfed in a sea of storm. This in no way disheartened the young nuclear scientist Lester Knight Chaykin as he raced towards the lab in his Ferrari. It would take more than a storm to keep him from trying his new experiment. In his excitement, he barely noticed the dark clouds looming on the hori- zon. Even if he had, there was no way for Lester to even imagine the events that were about to take place. The violence of the brewing storm was soon forgotten once Lester stepped into the quiet of the elevator. His slow descent into the lab only seemed to create more excitement. Lester could almost feel electricity in the air. Spending some • c: · zw,.,,aa time away from his lab had helped him to under- stand his earlier errors. With this new under- standing, Lester was sure that his new particle accel- eration experiments would be perfect. Lester runs his experiment. Before he could gain entrance to the lab, Lester had to wait impatiently for the security scan. Lester was ready to begin his experiment and didn't have time for what he thought were unnecessary security measures. 2 MACPLAY Through the security door Lester stepped into the mess he called his office. The piles of notes, empty soft drink cans and pizza boxes were a testimonial to the long hours of work that had passed before. Lester flipped a switch and Lester's experiment goes wrong. with a beep his computer snapped to life. He quickly entered his pass- word and began to enter the parameters for his new experiment. Now, he had only to wait. As he had done a hundred times before, Lester kicked back with a cold soda while the computer chugged away with the test. Any minute the computer would give him the results and he would know if he had indeed made a breakthrough. But outside, the storm had other plans for tonight. As Lester sat watch- ing his experiment run to perfection, the storm unleashed a tremendous bolt of lightning. The wave of electricity cut through the cool night air like a knife and hit the laboratory with deadly accuracy. Lester was unaware of what was happening outside. Just as the computer activated the accelerator a bolt of lightning found its way into the system with almost willful precision. As Lester sat with his icy cold soft drink, what was certain to be his demise was racing towards him through the acceler- ator at the speed of light. The bolt hit the end of the accelerator and ex…
