Apple Restoration CD - Read Me File System Software Disk 1, September 1994 This file contains important information about this release of the Apple Restoration CD that supersedes information in the Apple Restoration CD User's Guide. In addition, this file provides a listing of all the software configurations available on the CD. Refer to the on-line descriptions and those provided here when selecting a software configuration to restore on Macintosh computers. Important Information 1. You can use the Apple Restoration CD on the Apple CD SC Plus and the Apple CD 150, 300, and 300 Plus CD- ROM drives. If you are not booting from the Apple Restoration CD, you also need the appropriate CD-ROM software driver installed on your Macintosh computer. 2. You cannot boot from the Apple Restoration CD on Macintosh SE, SE/30, Classic, II, IIx, or IIcx computers. With these computers, start your Macintosh with a bootable hard drive and then run the Restoration CD installer program from the Other Items window that appears in the Finder. 3. If you're restoring software to a blank replacement hard drive in a single-drive system, the computer should boot from the Apple Restoration CD after a few seconds. If the computer has an internal hard drive capable of booting the computer, press and hold down the Shift, Option, Command, and Delete keys while starting the system. If the computer has multiple SCSI hard drives that are set up as bootable startup disks, disconnect or leave them powered off while using the Apple Restoration CD. Here are a few other notes about booting from the Apple Restoration CD: a. On Macintosh SE, SE/30, II, IIx, IIcx, IIci, IIfx, IIsi, and Performa 200, 400, 405, and 430 computers, pressing and holding down the Shift, Option, Command, and Delete keys during startup disables the hard drive installed as SCSI device 0. b. On all other computers except those listed in items 2 and 3a, pressing and holding down the Shift, Option, Command, and Delete keys during startup disables the hard drive chosen with the Startup Disk control panel. If no disk was chosen with the Startup Disk control panel, the computer will either disable the hard drive installed as SCSI device 0 or the key sequence will have no effect (depending on the model of computer). c. In general, if you are using an Apple CD 300 player and you set the CD-ROM drive's SCSI device number to a higher number than a bootable hard drive, the computer should boot from the CD-ROM drive. If other devices are starting the computer, either disconnect them, set the CD-ROM drive to be the startup disk, or specify a hard drive to be the startup disk and then use the Shift-Option-Command-Delete key sequence to disable the drive. If the computer still attempts to boot from SCSI device 0, even after using the Shift-Option-Command-Delete key sequence, you can reset the startup disk to SCSI device 0 by clearing parameter RAM (pressing and …

SPECTECH ST350 Radiation Counter (For Macintosh) Operating and Service Manual March 2003 Spectrum Techniques Page 1 Model ST350 RADIATION COUNTER The ST350 Radiation Counter brings new dimensions to Nuclear Science instruction and Health Physics training. By incorporating a specialized microcontroller, many of the features previously found only in multiple products are now combined in a single inexpensive instrument. The classical nuclear scaler function has now been extended to include a timer, preset counter, digital ratemeter with alarm, computer interface and a battery option for field applications. When constant counting statistics are required, the preset count mode can be extremely useful and the digital ratemeter is ideal for contamination survey work. An alarm level may be set to any pre-selected value and if the count rate exceeds this level, the audible alarm is sounded warning of a high activity condition. High voltage is fully variable from 0 to +1200 volts, allowing operation with many types of GM tubes. The supply is fully regulated and controlled by the processor for digital accuracy and readout on the display. Extra large LED's are used for the digital display for clear visual readout under widely differing ambient light conditions with leading zero suppression for clarity. Classroom demonstrations and nuclear experiments may now be run directly from a Macintosh computer using the on-line serial data link built into the ST350 and LabLink emulation software. All functions of the Radiation Counter are accessible and may be controlled from the computer, including the high voltage setting for the GM tube. The Radiation Counter software supplied produces computer screen displays of all functions including analog emulation of the ratemeter mode. Real-time data is automatically transferred to the computer and stored in spreadsheet compatible files. Data analysis and graphical presentation is now possible using many common spreadsheet programs bringing new techniques to Nuclear Science education. Optional batteries may be installed in the ST350 making the instrument fully portable. An AC to DC line converter/charger is supplied for continuous benchtop operation with or without the batteries installed. Page 2 Specifications. Input: BNC connector. Accepts standard Geiger tubes. High voltage: 0 to +1200 volts, digitally selectable in 25 volt increments. Display: 6-decade LED, 1 in. numerals. Displays counts, preset counts, time, preset time, CPM, CPS, alarm level, and high voltage. Modes: Count for preset time, count for preset count, counts/min., counts/ sec., set alarm level 0-999999 cps, set high voltage 0-1200v,and remote. Audio: Piezo alerter if countrate exceeds preset level. Data Link: DB-9 female connector accepts DIN cable. Power: Input 7.5 volt DC, at 500mA from AC line/charger.…

SIMTHEME PARK EASY GUIDE Your guide to trouble free gaming INTRODUCTION Use this Easy Guide for information on installation, short cut keys, hardware and software configuration and troubleshooting. CONTENTS Differences between the Game and the Manual 2 System Requirements 3 Installing SimTheme Park 4 OpenGL & 3D Acceleration 5 Troubleshooting 6 Customer Services 7 FAQs.(frequently asked questions) 8 Short Cut Keys 11 Credits and Notices 13 _______________________________________________________ DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE GAME AND THE MANUAL The manual was originally written for the Windows release of SimTheme Park and while nearly all the instructions are the same for both the Mac and Windows versions, there are a few significant differences that you should note. These are: 1. The manual refers to right-clicking on the mouse. If, like most Mac users, you use a one-button mouse do as follows: hold the mouse button down while simultaneously pressing the ctrl-key. This gives the same result as right-clicking with a two-button mouse. 2. The manual refers to left-clicking the mouse. If you are using a one- button mouse then simply click the mouse button as you would normally. 3. On page 4 the manual refers to the Reference card for installation instructions. These are given here on page 5 of this Easy Guide. 4. On Page 54 the manual says that on quitting the game you will exit to Windows. You will of course exit to the Mac desktop. 5. On Page 55 the manual mentions the word ÒPCÓ several times. PC refers in this instance to your Mac. 6. Also on Page 55 the manual refers to 3D Card/Software Rendering. Ignore this, it is not relevant for the Mac. 7. On page 60 the manual describes how you connect to the internet. Ignore this section, if you have an internet connection the game will connect you directly so you never see the Window called ÒChoose a connectionÓ. 2 _______________________________________________________ SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Minimum Configuration  Mac OS 8.5  OpenGL 1.1.2 (included on the disc)  QuickTime 4.0 (included on the disc)  Any Mac or Macintosh compatible computer with a  PowerPC G3 processor running at 266 Mhz or faster.  64 MB RAM (with virtual memory set to at least 128 MB)  Supported 3D Accelerator with at least 6MB of VRAM (See Open GL section of this Easy Guide for supported cards).  150 MB free hard disk space  4xCD-ROM drive Recommended Configuration  Any Mac or Macintosh compatible computer with a PowerPC G3 or G4 processor running at 333 Mhz or faster.  128 MB RAM  Supported 3D Accelerator with 16 MB of VRAM (See Open GL section of th…

Dispatcher Help for SteamTRAIN 3 Choosing the Dispatcher option provides endless, relaxing combinations of train- building and running for you the engineer (and crew) -- no time schedules. Basically, you show up for your work shift at your Depart Station and are assigned a locomotive and train makeup from your railroadʼs Dispatcher. You then assemble your train consisting of from 2 to 8 cars, and park it in front of the Depart Station. Finally, you attempt to run your train safely and efficiently to your destination -- the Arrive Station. Your Pay is related to your performance. If you find yourself at one of the 2 Terminals during Dispatcher runs, you may wish to Choose a different locomotive: (1) Double click on the Roundhouse roof to see if another loco is available. (2) Move your old loco into an empty stall completely inside the roundhouse. (3) Single click on the new locoʼs boiler to activate it -- starts smoking. (4) Turn your new loco on the Turntable and Refuel as required. (5) Build or attach to your Train and go to the Arrive Station. Before trying the Dispatcher, some user selectable options are available from the Preferences Window (under the SteamTRAIN menu). You now have 3 choices: (1) Any Train Cars in Any Order, (2) Listed Cars in Any Order, or (3) Listed Cars in Exact Order -- the last being the most difficult but also the most realistic. Finally you can choose the maximum number of cars in your train between 2 and 8. The Demo (unregistered) version of ST is limited to 4 car trains when using Dispatcher. A new Railroad Clock option allows you to set the time of day manually, or automatically. Light and dark are now related to the RR clock time. The Express options add more danger and challenge. If you have chosen the preference option “Listed Cars in Exact Order”, your train makeup is shown just below the Track Map window. An example of a five coach train might look like this: “H - G - D - C - A”. Individual cars are identified by white letters, which can be toggled on/off using the “I” key. Your switching talents will be needed to build your exact train. Dispatcher ON is selected from the top of the Station Menu. The Station Map and Dispatcher Windows both open -- listing your train orders as well as today's operating conditions, including: Depart Station: Start from any Listed Station Route Direction: EAST or WEST Locomotive Type: American 4-4-0, Mogul 2-6-0, Cons 2-8-0 or CHOOSE Water/Coal/Sand: Fixed (Demo), Quarter, Half, or Full Brake Type: Loco Steam or Train Air (safest) Train Cars: 2 to 8 (4 max for Demo) Grade/Slope: Map Normal or Map Steep (harder) Track Condition: Dry Rails or Slippery (danger) Day or Night: Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night Arrive Station: Stop at any Designated Station The Station Map shows how many stations you must pass to reach your destination. The Depart Station has a Gre…

Mail Train Help for SteamTRAIN 3 Choosing the Mail Train option provides new challenges for you the engineer (and crew) to deliver the mail on time! Basically, you show up for your work shift at your Depart Station and are assigned a locomotive and Fast Mail Train -- built up by the yard crew and parked it in front of the Depart Station. Your pre-assembled train always consists of exactly the same 4 cars: Loco, Tender, government Mail Car, 1 Baggage, and 2 Coaches -- A-B-C-D. Your task is to deliver 7 Mail Bags to 7 stations covering the entire ST Railroad main line -- as quickly as possible! You are graded on keeping your Schedule! On Time = 100% Pay. Of course, you could also be Early (good) or Late (bad). Various problems (crashes etc.) receive Time Penalties while you negotiate the rail circuit. Your Depart Station and final Arrive Station are always the two large Terminals. Before trying the Mail Train, some user selectable options are available from the Preferences Window (under the SteamTRAIN menu). You have 3 choices of increasing difficulty: (1) Fast Mail Train - 4 Cars Fixed, (2) Mail Train + Random Express, or (3) Mail + Express + Automatic Clock. Your schedule is pre-adjusted according to the degree of difficulty at the outset. The Demo (unregistered) version of ST lacks a few surprises. Options (1) and (2) above allow you to manually set the Railroad Clock. Option (3) automatically runs the clock from a random starting time. Light and dark are now related to the RR clock time. The Express option (2) and (3) adds more danger and challenge. Note: while your Mail Train is very important, the Express Train still has higher priority wherever they meet. Mail Train ON is selected near the top of the Station Menu. The Station Map and Mail Train Windows both open with your train orders as well as today's operating conditions, including: Depart Station: Start at Listed Terminal Station Route Direction: EAST or WEST Locomotive Type: American 4-4-0, Mogul 2-6-0, Consolidation 2-8-0 Water/Coal/Sand: Full (to Start) Brake Type: Train Air Brakes only (safest) Train Cars: 4 (A-B-C-D minimum) Grade/Slope: Map Normal or Map Steep (harder) Track Condition: Dry Rails or Slippery (danger) Time Remaining: XX Hours Arrive Station: Stop at all 7 Major Stations including Listed Terminal The Station Map shows each of the 7 stations where you must deliver a mail bag. The Depart Station has a Green Dot while the next seven -- including the Arrive Station -- gain Red Dots after youʼve stopped at each. For better screen visibility, the Station Map and Mail Train Windows can both be shown or hidden at any time using the “M” key. For very large screens, both windows can be relocated off the main window. Some of your prior preference and menu selections become overridden under Mail Train. Pay particular attention to orders or conditions shown in RE…

T H E G A M E O F S U S A N (tm) --------------------------------- An Introduction To Strategy Copyright 1994 by Stephen Linhart An Enigmatic(tm) Production THE FINE PRINT -------------- The board game SUSAN and this manual are protected under international copyright conventions and all rights are reserved. However, you are encouraged to copy and distribute this manual freely, as long as you do not modify it in any way and you do not charge money for it. SUSAN, Enigma and Enigmatic are trademarks of Enigma Games. All other trademarks are the property of their respective holders. ABOUT SUSAN ----------- SUSAN is a quick and subtle board game for two players. It was invented by Stephen Linhart (that's me) in 1991. In addition to the traditional board game, SUSAN is also available as a computer game for Macintosh. You can get the Macintosh version on AOL or GEnie, or from the info-mac ftp site at sumex-aim.stanford.edu on the Internet. The Macintosh version of SUSAN features an intelligent computer opponent that uses a simulated neural- network to actually learn by playing. Send comments and questions about SUSAN to: ENIGMA GAMES, P.O. Box 199, Amherst, MA 01004, USA Stephen123 on AOL - stephen123@aol.com on Internet "SO WHY CALL A BOARD GAME SUSAN?" (an advertising blurb) Well, I'll tell you. One day, me and my friend Michael were having lunch at our favorite cafe. We were playing my new game and I asked him what he thought I should call it. Just then, the waitress came over and Michael asked her name. She said 'Susan', and he turned to me and said 'Susan'. So I said 'Ah... Susan'. Anyway, the name stuck, and it must be a good one because everybody asks "So why call a board game SUSAN?" THIS MANUAL ----------- This manual includes an introduction to the game of SUSAN, plus basic and intermediate strategy tips. I created it in ASCII (plain text) so that it can travel freely in the electronic world. Please pass this manual along to your friends! To see the diagrams correctly you need to use a fixed-width font such as Courier or Monaco, not a proportionally spaced font like Times or Helvetica. Most modem software uses a fixed-width font. I've tried to give a good, basic introduction to strategy. But SUSAN is a new game, and I am still new at SUSAN. I'm sure there is much more to learn, and it's possible that some of the tips I give in this manual will become outdated. If you discover something new and exciting that I haven't discussed in the manual, please let me know. THE RULES --------- SUSAN is played on a hexagonal board with 61 spaces, using two sets of playing stones. Here is a diagram of a SUSAN board. Each star is a space where a stone can be placed. Most spaces have six neighbors. The edge spaces have four neighbors and the corners have three. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To begin the game, p…
