User’s Guide The Edmark Story In the late 1960's, a group of educators at the University of Washington developed a dramatically different way to teach reading. This new method was remarkably effective with students who were unsuccessful using other programs. By slowly building skills, it ensured success and a feeling of confidence. The students who used this method began to believe in themselves and in their ability to read. In 1970, the Edmark Corporation was formed to make the reading method and other quality educational products available to a broader market. Edmark’s mission was to apply advanced educational concepts to the development of quality classroom materials. Since then, Edmark products have been used extensively in classrooms nationwide, and teachers have been vocal in their praise. “So much magic in one box!” wrote one. “Some of my students wouldn't be reading without Edmark’s help.” Twenty-five years later, Edmark continues to find new ways of empowering young children to learn. Thanks to my parents, for giving me my first computer, and my sister, Mary Ellen, for not creaming her little brother every chance she got. Thanks to my brother, Mike, who in 1985 said "Check this out. It's a Macintosh." Now look what you did. Other folks who offered support and encouragement: The Darlings (Dawn, Brian, and those amazing McGurl boys), Teresa Fallon, and T. Greenfield especially. Also Claudia Earley-Stanford, Cathy Lyman, Sandy Lauro, and Juanita Epps. Thanks also to all the software authors who graciously allowed me to cobble their work together to make something of my own. My work would mean nothing without theirs. Special thanks to Robert Johnston, who hustled his buns getting version 1.2 of WindowShade ready for release. THREAT GUIDE This document contains information that you should be familiar with while flying F/A-18 OIF. The first section lists all the types of mission roles you are expected to fulfill as a Hornet Strike/Fighter pilot. The second section contains a reference section with detailed information about the vehicles, aircraft, SAMs, AAA and ships that you can encounter while operating in the Iraqi theater. The reference section presents specifications and a side view for each friendly and enemy system. F/A-18 OIF contains a wide variety of types. The various types are: Mission Descriptions: AR – Anti-Runway This type of mission involves invading enemy territory and neutralizing an enemy airbase by eliminating their capability to deploy/recover aircraft. Other structures on the airfield, such as the control towers, also make tempting targets. AT – Anti-Tank This type of Close Air Support mission will require you to concentrate solely on the destruction of the enemy’s heavy armor (tanks). Such missions may or may not be performed with the aid of friendly troops in the area. CAP – Combat Air Patrol Enemy fighters are a constant threat to friendly forces. Because they want the advantage of surprise they usually don’t announce their attack times. Therefore, Combat Air Patrols are a constant duty. Your F/A-18 will be outfitted with a wide range of air-to-air weaponry and usually one or more external tanks. That excess fuel will come in handy while manning your CAP! CAS – Close Air Support The friendly forces on the ground have been engaged by overwhelming enemy firepower and now need your assistance! Make sure you can positively identify where the enemy troops are, don’t accidentally drop on friendly positions and have a “blue on blue!” The pilot is often unaware of the nature of the SAM and AAA threat until he is closer to the target area. This mission requires a high amount of flexibility and caution. Escort This mission involves safely escorting one or more aircraft during their own missions. Usually the aircraft you will be assigned to escort shall have little or no self-defense capability. Depending on the type of aircraft you must protect, you’ll probably find that aircraft requiring an escort will be 1 THREAT GUIDE considerably slower than the enemy A/A aggressors. Keep the bad guys as far away as possible to ensure mission success. Intercept Enemy fighters have been detected heading into friendly territory. Your mission is to eliminate this threat. In the case of an integrated enemy strike package (bomber escorted by fighters), mission success depends upon eliminating the strike aircraft (bomber). However the fighters are likely on an escort mission of their own, and their job is to prevent you from doing your job! SEAD – Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses This type of mission involves destroying or degrading enemy SAM or AAA sites. This mission is usually given in preparatio…

About: Three's is a puzzle game in which you line up different icons into rows or columns. Be careful though, once a group of icons is in a line they can't be moved. Note to people with earlier versions: You will need to distory the preference fill and the high score file. I changed the format of the data and if you play with the old files Three's will most likely crash. Playing: You are first shown a dialog asking for a playing size. The smallest is 4, but the largest is only limited by the number of icons in the set or the size of your screen. To move an icon, simply click on it. If it isn't in a line and is next to the blank space, it will move. The icons can be changed at any time from the Icon set menu. Icon set are files containing a 'cicn' resource in the "Three's Icon Sets" folder. (Where before they were stored inside the appication.) See 'Adding and Changing Icon Sets' to find out how to add or change icon sets. You can also set a few things in the Preferences, as shown below. The Prefernece window: There are three thing that can be changed here. 1) If the choose size window is show when you start Three's or if You see the playing window at the default size. 2) The default baord size. 3) Where the Highscore file is kept, in the app folder or in the Preference folder. Adding and Changing Icon Sets: To add or change Icon Sets, you will need a resource editor. I use ResEdit and so these instuctions are writen for it. First you need a collection of icons that you want to use. You will need at least 5 different. Remember, more icons bigger sizes :) All icons need to be stored as type 'cicn'. The 'cicn' resource has places for both color and B&W icons, make sure you fill in both so B&W users can see whats going on. The cicn's HAVE to be number consecutively starting a 128 and have no jumps in the numbering sequence. The file's name is the name of the icon set. The needs a Type of 'icõn' (The õ is made by pressing option-"n", and then "o") and a creator of 'The?'. If you think your set is exspesally cool, send it to me. If I agree, I'll include it with future versions of Three's. And of coures give you credit. Quick Note About Files: Just a quick reminder that I changed all the file formats. So make sure you put all the old ones into the trash! If you don't, you just might crash! About the new highscores: When I gave Three's the abillity for nearly unlimited playing sizes, I ran into the problem of keeping highscores. I felt that I couldn't not include these scores. And to add more groups of scores for each possible size was unrealistic. I really wanted to keep the highscore idea in Three's, so I had to come up with a way of making scores equal. This is what I came up with (with help form my brother, Matt) score% = ((moves% + undos%)*1000)/(size%*size%*size%) score% is your score which is compared with other scor…
