About This Guidebook On the following pages, you will find a version of the shooting script that was used to create Wrath of the Gods. To make the characters of Greek mythology come alive, co-designer Jeff Cretcher videotaped costumed actors on an empty stage and then digitally composited in backgrounds from photographs taken in Greece. The original version of this script was the guide for the video shoot and also for the computer programming of the game itself. Later, when Marty Beckers was updating the program so that it would run on the latest computers, he made sure that the script exactly matches the experience of the game. We’ve added some of the background information that is available in the “Info” during gameplay. So this guide serves as a handy tool for learning about the Greek myths while tracking your progress through the game—with the omniscient perspective of a god of Greek mythology! Warning to serious gamers: this guide contains hints 1 deities involved themselves in the affairs of humankind and a mortal might aspire to be larger than life… THE SCENE SHIFTS TO MYCENAE (my-SEE-nee), a kingdom of the Heroic Age. It does, however, assume you have read the Game Manual and are familiar with the various methods of controlling your actions. The game uses compass directions (north, south, east, west) to help you find your way around. I have avoided this in this walkthrough, as it often not easy to orient yourself between the scene and the map. Instead, I direct you relative to the screen: right, left, up or down. Although, the walkthrough usually makes use of the map unnecessary, I assume you will make use of the map when the directions are not detailed. GENERAL HINTS MONEY Money is in the form of gems. Most everything costs two gems. You will find single gems in many different places but there are two re-newing predictable sources of gems: 1. Arrange the alphabet blocks east of the Chimaera. Read the Easy Money paragraph in the main body of the walkthrough. 2. When you have up to two gems you can gamble on any of the fruit machines at the Chariot ticket offices and win two gems. Don't gamble when you have more than two gems, or you will lose. TAKING RISKS Don't be afraid! Do so. In fact you will probably have more fun, dying and seeing what the gods have in store for you, rather than getting everything right the first time. I recommend deliberately failing the first, or even second, attempt at solving a puzzle when your life is in danger! CHARIOT STOPS Use the Chariots by all means. They cost two gems a flight and it seems to take just as long to get from A to B. But take the chariot at least once, just for the experience. OPENING SCENES The High King of Mycenae and his daughter, Princess Dione, are in Dione's chamber with her baby son. Dione will not reveal to her father who fathered her baby. A visit to the Oracle fills the King with such dread that he forces Dione to abandon her baby. Dione's son is found and raised by a centaur. The young man is sent out by the centaur on the hero's path. At this point you take control of the hero. FINDING A SWORD Leave the centaur by walking to the left and then down to the riverside. Welcome to the Teacher’s Guide for Wrath of the Gods. This program, an interactive adventure game based on the Greek myths, can be used to reinforce students’ knowledge of Greek mythology in an absorbing and entertaining way. Wrath of the Gods is suitable for use in sixth grade and up. But even younger students who can learn or already know basic computer skills (using the mouse to point and click) will enjoy Wrath of the Gods. They can explore the numerous scenes, interact with various characters and solve many of the puzzles in the game. This guide provides suggestions on using Wrath of the Gods with your students. The Teacher’s Edition of Wrath of the Gods is actually a combination of products and resources. Writing HFS floppies with the help of MiniVMac Its a known fact, that OSX can not write HFS Standard floppies as of 10.6 and higher. However there is the dd command available in all *nix systems. Unix guys will know. For the others, dd and Terminal can do many useful things, including writing HFS floppies. What is needed: Mac OSX 10.8 or lower. Termial App from Application/Utilities USB floppy drive. Installation of MiniVmac with Mac OS 6.0.8 (or another System of your choice). The dd command seems to be picky when writing files to floppy, so you have to make sure to use a untouched 1440 RAW image. So here we go: 1.) Create a 1440kbyte image with dd like this: Open Terminal and type in Code: dd if=/dev/zero of=/1440.dsk bs=1k count=1440 A file 1440.dsk is created in the root directory of your startup volume.     2.) Start MiniVMac using your boot disk and drag the new 1440.dsk onto MiniVMac´s window.         Select Initialize and Erase in MiniVMac. 3.) Name the volume accordingly (e.g. 1440) and copy the files you want onto it.         Thats it. Close MiniVMac. 4.) Insert a floppy and open DiskUtility. Use the Info button to find out the device ID of your floppy. For this example, lets assume the floppy is disk3. Now select Unmount.                       5.) Go back to Terminal and type in: Code: sudo dd if=/1440.dsk of=/dev/disk3     Because of sudo, you will have to type in your OSX password. The copy process will need some time. As you got a similar output as the above picture, use DiskUtility to eject your floppy, then insert it again.     Done. Your files should show up on floppy! Hope someone will find this useful, especially for transferring files to vintage Macs with HD floppy.
