Version 1.6 of 1st May 1996 by James Thomson “It’s not just another launcher…” “…a gorgeous, feature-laden productivity enhancer…” - David Pogue, MacWorld, January 1996 “…a solid, easy, elegant application…” - Tonya Engst, TidBITS#277 Almost Nominated for “Outstanding Programming for a Freeware Product” in the Second Annual Usenet Macintosh Programming Awards! Contents This document contains a brief introduction to setting up and using DragThing, along with some background information about the program and its author. The answers to most questions you have about DragThing should be in here (especially in the troubleshooting section), so have a read through it at least once. If you want to distribute DragThing on a CD or floppy disk, be sure to read the ‘Legal Stuff’ section first. 1. Introduction 2. Using DragThing 3. Troubleshooting 4. Secret Tips & Shortcuts 5. Version History 6. About The Author 7. Legal Stuff 8. Cool Stuff 9. Thanks 1. Introduction DragThing is an application dock designed to tidy up the icons littering your desktop. Simply drag an application from the Finder onto an empty square in a dock and then drag documents onto it as normal. Double-click a docked application to launch it or bring it to the front. In addition, the docks can contain files, folders, disks and servers, and there is also a option to display the currently running processes in a special dock. New in 1.6 is the ability to store and organise Internet URLs in docks and double-click them to open the URL with an appropriate helper application. You can drag URLs into any dock and edit them, and also import and export docks as HTML. It requires at least System 7.5 (or 7.1 with Drag & Drop, AppleScript and the Scriptable Finder) and a Macintosh with a minimum of a Motorola 68020 or PowerPC 601 processor. Storing URLs in docks requires Internet Config 1.1 or later. The application is distributed as a fat binary with both regular 68K and native PowerPC versions included. DragThing may be used freely - all I ask is that if you really like DragThing and keep using it, you send me something cool in return. There is a list of cool stuff later on to guide you. People who send me cool stuff have a much better chance of getting bugs fixed or requested features added, and can feel good about themselves. People who keep using DragThing and don’t send me anything will just have to live with the guilt… Postcards aren’t cool. Page 1 2. Using DragThing Most things in DragThing have Balloon Help - turn it on and point at anything you are unsure about. There are useful tips scattered throughout the Balloon Help messages for the menus and control…

- Michael Berlyn - Co-designer of Dr. Dumont's Wild P.A.R.T.I. Michael Berlyn is a writer who turned to designing computer software and games in 1979. His career path is one of creative enterprise ranging from electric violinist to novelist to game designer. His unique approach to writing games has won him national acclaim from the Washington Post to Rolling Stone to Time Magazine. his energy and playful qualities have gained him a large following of game players. Michael's game writing career began with his fascination with the original adventure, Collosal Cave, in 1979. Playing the game till the sun rose, then taking it apart to learn it's internal mysteries, drove his new wife crazy, till she joined him in the fun . Michael read many programming books and learned BASIC well enough to try out his new skills on his own first adventure game . The home computer market was finding it's first explosive year, and the newlyweds found that with two writers in the family, a home computer as a welcome, tax-deductable expense. With two original science fiction novels sold and published that year, Michael worked on a third novel while writing his first adventure game, Oo- Topos. With a move to Aspen, Colorado and the founding of their first company, Sentient Software, the Berlyns began working together on game writing and design. Oo-Topos grabbed the attention of the public with professional quality prose and imaginative science fiction elements. It was released shortly after his third novel, Blight. Michael was well on his way to becoming the first writer to design, write and program computer games, giving his name an innovative edge in the market. His talents as a writer proved to be a valuable asset in the newly developing game market. With Cyborg, his next science fiction adventure climbing in the top 5 bestsellers in 1982, Michael became a familiar face in computer magazines coast-to-coast. With Suspended, a major feat of design complexity, Michael was hailed by reviewers as a breakthrough game designer. - Muffy Berlyn - Co-designer of Dr. Dumont's Wild P.A.R.T.I. I Muffy Berlyn is a writer, editor, and artist. She wrote and edited a young-adult magazine in South Florida, Easy times, for two years. Her responsibilities as editor there made good use of her multidisiplinarian talents. Her artistic talents were channeled into a more commercial vehicle as she designed, layed-out and pasted up significant proportion of the magazine's editorial and ad pages. She won the coveted "Rock-Pop Editor of the Year" award and the 1980 hardcover editon of Writer's Market requested and used a quote of hers for their back cover. She provided original art and investigative articles for the magazine, shaping it into a successful monthly over the two years she spent as editor. She later published a national horoscope column with the Weekly World Ne…

1 CHAPTER 1 Dreamweaver Tutorial . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Dreamweaver tutorial walks you through the steps of building Web pages. You’ll learn how to use Macromedia Dreamweaver to define a local site, and you’ll use Dreamweaver panels and tools to create and edit Web documents. In this tutorial, you’ll create Web pages for Compass, a fictitious company that specializes in adventure travel. If you’re new to Dreamweaver, start at the beginning of the tutorial and work your way through the end. If you’re already familiar with Dreamweaver, you may want to start at “Use the Assets panel” on page 56; this section and those that follow it focus on new or changed features in Dreamweaver such as the Assets panel, Flash buttons and text, using a template, running a site report and adding a Design Note. The tutorial takes approximately one to two hours to complete, depending on your experience, and focuses on the following Dreamweaver tasks: • Defining a local site • Creating a page in Layout view • Inserting an image and a rollover image • Working with tables in Standard view • Creating a link to another document • Inserting assets from the Assets panel • Inserting Flash Text and Flash Button objects • Creating and applying a template • Running a site report • Adding a Design Note Note: This tutorial demonstrates some features that are supported only in 4.0 or later browsers. 27 Take a guided tour of Dreamweaver Before you get started, watch the Guided Tour movies to familiarize yourself with the Web development process and with Dreamweaver features. 1 In Dreamweaver, choose Help > Guided Tour. 2 Click a movie title. 3 Close the movie when you finish. Dropper v 1.1 Cubes drop from the top of the window, and your goal is to stack and line them up. Line them up vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. When you line up the correct amount (4,5 or 6, depending on the level you are on) the cubes vanish and your score increases. A drop can result in two or more lines vanishing at once, you'll get a bonus if you can do that. Initially, Dropper's control keys are set to [J] for left movement, [L] for right, and [space] to drop the cube. You can change these keys to what you want by selecting 'Set Keys' under the Game menu. Your score varies by the difficulty of the stack, the level and stage. You also get bonus points at the end of a level for each horizontal or diagonal line you make. It's relatively easy to go through Dropper making only vertical stacks, but you'll never get an impressive score that way. Challenge yourself, go for horizontal and diagonals, and go for the multiple line bonuses! The stage value also changes the speed at which the cubes drop, the higher the stage the faster the drop. At even higher levels, some cubes will already be in place on the playing field when you start a level. The 'Pause' button allows you some thinking time, click and hold the mouse cursor on the 'Pause' button to delay the current drop. You can press the movement keys while paused to guide the current cube into the spot you want, when you release the pause button the cube will move to the position your keystrokes directed. But remember, you only have limited pause time per step, use it wisely! There is also a 'Preview' option under the Game menu that shows you the next cube. However, if you use Preview at any time during a stage, your score is halved! But only for the stage that Preview is used in, if you turn Preview off, the next (and subsequent) stages scores will not be halved. Dropper will also happily play in the background under MultiFinder, so you can't escape that way. Enjoy! C.K. Haun RavenWare SoftWare CHANGES FROM v 1.0 Added Black and White support. Added Preview feature. Added Pause menu item. Fixed two minor bugs.
