Introduction Introduction Welcome to the Butler SQL User’s Guide. This guide covers all aspects of configuring and maintaining a Butler SQL server. You should have Butler SQL installed using the instructions contained in the Getting Started Guide before reading the sections of this guide. The four separate sections of this guide describe how to use Butler SQL, ButlerHosts, and the ODBC Setup control panel to • create and manage ports, • configure Butler SQL, • connect client applications to Butler SQL, and • backup and restore data. The various options which Butler SQL provides will be discussed and demonstrated in each section of this guide. Instructions appear in bold type for quick reference; also, the instructions will be accompanied by notes, informing you of system specifics and recommended methods that will help you get the full benefit of Butler SQL. Our intended audience This guide is designed to introduce Butler SQL, DAL/DAM, and ODBC configuration to individuals who are unfamiliar with the functions and operations of a Butler SQL server. Those individuals who have never used client-server software should consult an introductory text to familiarize themselves with the general purpose and usage of such applications. 1 About Butler SQL databases About Butler SQL databases A Butler SQL database contains one or more tables. Each table has a name and contains specific columns and rows. A cell is the intersection of a row and a column. These columns list the properties of the data that may be contained in a database. Columns in a table are made up of data items of a single type. For example, in an employee table, the employee name, occupation, Social Security number, and home telephone number would each be sepa- rate columns. Every table must have at least one column and each column must be assigned a unique name in the table. A row is a collection of values which are related. A row in an employee table could consist of the employee name, employee number, home address, and Social Security number. Databases on a server can be used by many clients. When a client applica- tion is connected to a Butler SQL server, the client can access the tables of the databases located on the server. …

CORRECTIONS TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL The Owner's Manual is for version 2.0. It does not cover version 2.04. However, 2.04 does not alter any of the basic operations. When you have learned those operations using this manual, then tum to the 2.04 addendum that came with the manual. Page 1-3, last paragraph. No Quick Start Guide is included. Page 3-29, second paragraph, last line. It should read: "following the ►, and click Enter:" The caret in the manual should point the opposite direction. The illustration at the right of page 3-29 shows where your preset text should be entered. Page 5-49, the chart showing the logic operators that may be used as search criteria. The second listing- = =ABC Exactly to 'ABC', note spaces should read = :ABC Exactly equal to 'ABC' Including any spaces In other words, "=ABC'' will not match "ABCD" or "AB C." Page 2-15, instructions for starting your own C•A•T database. Toe "Quick Stan" files referred to here are no longer included. (The "preset repon fonnats" discussed in the final paragraph are now included in C•A•T itself.) Whether you are working from a hard disk or a 3.5" disk, follow these instructions: 1. CIiek the CA• T Icon (shown at the right of page 2-15) to select It. 2. Pull down the FIie menu and select "Open." 3. When C•A•T presents a menu of flles to load, click "Cancel." Toe final paragraph is still accurate if you begin reading at "Regard." Page A-1 (in Appendix A), "Via Excel." Other spreadsheets, some of them considerably less expensive than Excel, can be used for these operations. A good alternative is MacCalc (from Bravo Technologies, sold by Chang Labs). The commands in the Owner's Manual are Excel commands. The manual of your spreadsheet will tell you what to use instead. Page A-4. The error is in the list of fonnulas. The second formula should read: cell C1 contains: :SEARCH{" ",A1,B1+2) find the 2nd space BLANK SPACE I following the comma continued on back Page A-5. After the first paragraph, add another paragraph that reads: "• At the left of the leftmost cell of your first row, insert a command telling C•A•T which window to o~n. If the row contains account data, the command is { l}. If the row contains contact data, the command is {3}. If you have several rows of account-window data, put the {l} only in the first row. Same with contact data-if you have several rows of it, put the {3} only in the first row." Appendix A: Import/Export (in general). If you need more instruction for this operation than the manual provides, we have a booklet called "Importing Data to C•A•T." It illustrates each step and discusses the Excel commands used to reorganized data before import. Page D-1 (in Appe…

• To use these: 1. Press enter 2. Type in the cheat 3. Press enter again. Spooky: In multiplayer, gives all players except you full health Stone: All staves fully charged Weird: All weapons give +1 hit Supernatural: Hear a scream -------------------------------------------------------------------- To Duplicate An Item In Your Inventory 1. Drop the item you want to duplicate on the ground. You can duplicate any item, including money. 2. Place a potion on your belt. Important: Make sure the inventory window is closed before you continue. 3. Walk a short distance away from the item on the ground. 4. Click the item on the ground. As you begin walking towards the item, position the hand cursor over the potion in your belt. 5. At the exact instant you pick up the item, click the potion on your belt. Timing is critical, so you may have to try several times to get it right. If you're successful, the original item will be placed in your inventory and the potion will become a duplicate of the item. Although the potion still appears as a potion, the description changes to the name of the duplicated item. Once you drop the potion into your inventory, it becomes the duplicated item. Note: If you drop two copies of an item on the ground, one will be destroyed. Thanks to: eric reckling <reckling@concentric.net> Another Way To Duplicate An Item In Your Inventory 1. Create a Town Portal. 2. Drop the item you want to duplicate in front of the portal. 3. Click the item, then step through the portal. You should have a copy of the item when you reach the town. 4. Go back through the portal to retrieve the original item. Note: These cheats may not work in all version of Diablo.

Quest: The Butcher Monster: The Butcher Hit Points: 50 Damage: 6-12 Reward: The Butcher's Cleaver (+10 to Strength, 4-24 Damage, Durability = 10) When preparing for battle with the Butcher, a character's most effective offense is a good defense. Regardless of class, characters should carry a sturdy shield and have at least a 15 or better armor class. Quest: Tristram's Water Supply Monster: No unique monster Reward: Ring of Truth (+10 to Hit Points, Absorbs 1 point damage per hit, Resist All 10%) Regardless of character class, a good tactic for this quest is moving forward and then walking back, drawing a few creatures in at a time to avoid fighting too many monsters simultaneously. Quest: Skeleton King Monster: Skeleton King Hit Points: 60 Damage: 6-16, Resistance to Fire and Lightning, Immune to Non-Fire and Lightning Magic, except for Stone Curse and Holy Bolt Reward: The Undead Crown (Armor Class = 8, Life Stealing +5%) A Sorcerer should fill his belt with maria potions and use Holy Bolt to kill the Skeleton King and his army. For Warriors or Rogues, blunt objects such as a mace, morning star, or War Hammer are most effective against the undead, as well as Holy Bolt. Quest: Gharbad the Weak Monster: Gharbad the Weak Hit Points: 120 Damage: 8-16 Reward: Random Magical Item The best tip for this quest is to be prepared for Gharbad to betray characters on their third visit. Gharbad lives up to his surname "The Weak", so characters should use their spells or weapon to put a quick end to the deceiver. Quest: Ogden's Sign Monster: Snotspill Hit Points: 220 Damage: 10-18, Resistance to Lightning Reward: Harlequin Crest, if the sign is given to Ogden (+2 to all stats, +7 to Hit Points, +7 to Mana, -3 to Armor Class, -1 to Damage Received) To access the stairs down to level five, players must destroy Snotspill and his large number of followers. Spells from a distance such as Lightning or Fire Bolt work well. For hand-to-hand combat, using a blade weapon in the doorway is effective. Quest: The Magic Rock Monster: No unique monster Reward: Empyrean Band (+2 to all stats, +20% to Light Radius, Fast hit recovery, Absorbs trap damage) This object is randomly placed on a pedestal within the catacombs on the fifth level. The monsters guarding the rock are random as well. Be sure to return the rock to Griswald for the magical ring. Quest: Arkaine's Valor Monster: No unique monster Reward: Arkaine's Valor (Splint Mail, +25 to Armor Class, +10 to Vitality, Absorbs 3 points damage per hit received, Fastest hit recovery) You have to fight your way through plenty of demons to get at the armor. A Sorcerer should use his highest level spell of either Fire or Charged Bolt. Both the Warrior and Rogue will want to close the distance between the creatures, so the demons do not have room to charge. Quest: Chamber of Bone Monster: No unique monster Reward: Guardian Spell…

The Unofficial Diablo Player Guide v1.1 28th Jan 1997 ===================================================== written Edward Kenworthy Introduction ============ So why am I writing this player guide ? Basically because I had a look on the Web and couldn't find any that were any good. An awful lot of very pretty looking Diablo pages and FAQs but they either lacked substance or were woefully out of date covering such things as "when will Diablo be released ?". And besides I've played a lot of Diablo and I can write and I want to do it. So here it is. Version 1.0 of my player's guide. This guide is not a faq - it's written in a more prosaic style and to be blunt there are some things I just don't care about and so will probably never include a section to cover them (unless I get nagged enough ;)). Such subjects include "How do I play Diablo without a CD ?" "How do I play Diablo on Windows 2.1 ?" "How do I play Diablo on my Linux install ?" - I DON'T CARE ! Go whine at someone else you sandal wearing hippy ! ;-). I have a Pentium running Windows 95 and 48 MB of memory and everything is just fine. (Well nearly, but I won't bore you with my petty whinges if you don't bore me with yours :)). All I'm interested in is playing the game ! Note also that I've generally avoided including stuff that's in the manual. If you want that then RTFM !:) Spoiler Alert ------------- One word of caution. There are spoilers in here. Because of the style I have chosen to use for this guide they are scattered through out the text as appropriate with no other warning. If you want to enjoy all the surprises then don't read this ! I certainly enjoyed (and am still enjoying) the surprises and won't be offended if you feel the same way and therefore choose not to read the rest of this guide. Legal Stuff =========== Sorry ! :( I'll keep this as short as I can. This guide is copyrighted by me, Edward Kenworthy, 1997. Feel free to copy this guide as many times as you like and put it on your web pages or wherever; you can even print it if you like to read in the... bath. Please just give me the credit I'm due :=). Under no circumstances may you charge for this guide or any part of it. If you want to contribute anything then that's great, just send it to me at: ekenworthy@cix.compulink.co.uk and you'll receive full credit. I get to keep full copyright on the guide and any contributions (and you accept that condition by posting me contributions), but hey that's no problem as the guide will always be free - it's just to avoid any misunderstandings. Character Class =============== Overview -------- At first glance and after playing Diablo for a short while it seems that there are only three significant differences between the three available character classes: which skill do you receive, what sex are you and what are your starting stats. It seems that from then on you can follow whichever path you wish regardless of your starting class choice. To a degree that …
