We have one government where there used to be hundreds. Big brother is alive and well. Things are pretty good in the big cities if you don’t mind the fact that the World Coalition Government tracks your every move. They claim they do it in the interest of the common good but it can make you feel insignificant and helpless. No matter where you go "they" are watching you. In the cities most people have enough money to live quite well by the standards of the old world. An average family can afford a nice place to live, a timeshare on a vehicle and a terminal that links them to the WorldNet. For most it’s an acceptable payoff for a near total loss of privacy and systematic violations of our personal freedoms. It’s best not to think about life outside the cities. The powers that be would never admit it, but the air has gone bad. The forbidden zones they euphemistically call "Wilderness Preserves" are actually massive tracts of quarantined land. The poor people who can’t afford to live in the cities get as close to the atmosphere processors as they can and eke out a miserable (and dangerous) existence working on the reclamation teams who beat back the corrosive stain of the wilderness. From time…

Oolite Version 1.90 Installation Mac OS X Oolite requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later Drag the 'Oolite' folder (containing Oolite, this ReadMe, the License and the 'AddOns' folder) to any convenient place on your hard drive. If you are upgrading from a previous version of Oolite then drag the Oolite application from this disk's Oolite folder to your own Oolite folder. To run the game, double-click on the file 'Oolite.app' (the Oolite icon) in the 'Oolite' folder. Windows A folder called 'Oolite' has been created in Start -> Program Files. This folder has icons for running the game, the reference sheet, the link to the official Oolite website, the Advice for New Commanders guide, this ReadMe and an uninstall program. To run the game, choose the Oolite icon in the 'Oolite' folder. Linux (oolite.org package) (this section is not applicable for installed packages downloaded from Linux repositories) For all freedesktop.org-compliant desktops (e.g. GNOME, KDE, etc.) an 'Oolite (oolite.org)' entry has been created, under the 'Games' application category. Note that a plain 'Oolite' entry, instead of 'Oolite (oolite.org)', indicates an Oolite installation performed using a package downloaded from a Linux repository. Linux repositories often lag behind the latest official application releases. It is recommended to download and install the latest Oolite version available at http://www.oolite.org . To run the game, choose the 'Oolite (oolite.org)' entry. Oolite may also run from a terminal. For system-wide Oolite installations (i.e. Oolite installed as root), open a terminal and execute $ oolite while for home-folder Oolite installations, open a terminal and execute $ ~/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/oolite To remove Oolite, for system-wide installations (i.e. Oolite installed as root), open a terminal and execute $ /opt/Oolite/uninstall while for home-folder Oolite installations, open a terminal and execute $ ~/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/uninstall For more information, on the Oolite for Linux installation, check the README.TXT file located in the following folder: system-wide Oolite installation /opt/Oolite/doc/README.TXT home-folder Oolite installation ~/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/doc/README.TXT Start Menu When starting Oolite, a menu with six options will be displayed. Start New Commander: Start a new commander. Three starting scenarios are available by default, though expansion packs may add more. New players may wish to start with the Tutorial scenario which introduces the basics of flight and combat. A commander started with the Strict Mode option will never have any expansion packs affecting the ga…

 Important Information about OpenGL® for Macintosh OpenGL for Macintosh enables your computer to display three-dimensional graphics using applications designed to take advantage of OpenGL. System Requirements The following is required to install and run OpenGL for Macintosh: • A PowerPC™ based computer with a minimum of 32 megabytes of memory (RAM) • Mac OS System 8.1 or later For more information The latest version of OpenGL for Macintosh, along with software demos and additional information is available through the Internet at the following site: http://developer.apple.com/opengl Installing OpenGL To install OpenGL, double-click the "Installer" icon in the "OpenGL Install" folder and follow the on-screen instructions. Conix OpenGL Users OpenGL for Macintosh is a complete replacement for Conix OpenGL v1.5, so if Conix OpenGL v1.5 is installed on the system you may remove it. Conix OpenGL v1.5 is normally located in the "Conix OpenGL 1.5" folder in the Extensions folder within the System Folder. OpenGL for Macintosh is not a replacement for Conix OpenGL v1.3, so if Conix OpenGL v1.3 is installed on the system you should take care not to remove it unless you are sure that it is no longer needed by any applications. Conix OpenGL v1.3 is normally located in the "Conix OpenGL" folder in the Extensions folder within the System Folder. OpenGL for Macintosh does not conflict with Conix OpenGL v1.3, so both versions may be simultaneously installed on the system. However, if you have an application that uses Conix OpenGL v1.3, you may wish to contact the application vendor to upgrade to a version that uses OpenGL for Macintosh. Using OpenGL How OpenGL uses memory OpenGL is a shared library. When no applications that rely on OpenGL are open, the library does not take up memory space (RAM). Once OpenGL -based application is open, the amount of memory taken up by the shared library doesn’t increase if other OpenGL -based applications are launched. Of course, each application will take up memory according to their size and the complexity. The memory taken up OpenGL becomes available when you quit all OpenGL -based applications. While an OpenGL application is open, the OpenGL library allocates memory from "temporary memory." This memory shows up in the "About This Macintosh…" window as memory used by the application. When you quit the application, the memory becomes available. About Apple Game Sprockets Some third-party applications may need Apple Game Sprockets files installed in the Extensions folder within the System Folder. These files provide the support that many games need to interact with joysticks, networks, and monitors. If you install any games on your computer, they may install earlier versions of Apple Game Sprockets. To make sure that you are using the latest versions, remove any copies of DrawSprocketLib, NetSprocketLib, InputSprocketLib, or SoundSprocketLib that are not in the Extensions folder within the System Folder…
