v 1.2.1 - December, 1995 •Introduction Fat Cursors is a system extension/control panel that installs slightly larger Arrow and IBeam cursors. If you've ever seen the standard cursors on a PowerBook 180c, or if you just have a hard time finding the cursor on your screen, you'll definitely be able to appreciate this utility! Fat Cursors v1.2.1 also features a "find cursor" function that works on any Mac (not just PowerBooks!). •Installation To install Fat Cursors, drag its icon on top of your system folder's icon. Then restart your Macintosh. Fat Cursors will display its icon at startup. System 7 note: It is important that you drag the Fat Cursors icon on top of the system folder's icon and NOT into the system folder's open window. You will be asked if you want to put Fat Cursors in the Control Panels folder. Click the "Ok" button. •Instructions for use The Fat Cursors control panel has changed considerably since version 1.1 (hopefully for the better). The changes were implemented with the hope that the control panel would be much easier to see and use. The first pair of "On" and "Off" buttons on the left side of the control panel turn Fat Cursors on or off. The other two pairs toggle between fat and standard cursors. The three buttons on the right side bring up dialog boxes as follows: ‘Fat’ Keys - Enable/disable fat keys feature. When enabled the cursor is fattened only while the selected modifier keys are pressed. ‘Find’ Keys - Enable/disable find cursor feature. Use this dialog to select modifier keys. To use the "find cursor" function, press the space bar while holding down the selected modifier keys. A large circle will flash around the cursor's current location. About me - Displays an about dialog with copyright and shareware info. A future version of Fat Cursors will have online help in this dialog. Fat Cursors can be disabled at startup by holding down the mouse button before its icon is displayed. If, during startup, Fat Cursors has any problems loading, or if the mouse button is down, Fat Cursors will display its icon with a circle/slash through it (red, for those of you with color) and will not load. •Special notes Version 1.2.1 of Fat Cursors now works with just about all applications, even ones that install their own cursors which were unaffected by earlier versions of Fat Cursors. If you are using CPU on a PowerBook, you must either set its "Edit Cursor" to the thinnest (standard) setting or be sure that it loads before Fat Cursors in order for Fat Cursors to fatten the IBeam cursor. If you want the cursor to be fat when over the Control Strip you must be sure that Fat Cursors loads before the Control Strip. This can be accomplished by using one of the many extension managers available or by renaming Fat Cursors by prepending a space to its name.
