This is one of those addictive games that you won't want your teenagers to start playing because if they do, they'll always be using your computer so you can't play. Can be played by one to four players off the keyboard, although it recommends two keyboards be used for multiple players. This is the COLOR version, and will not work on monochrome Macs. Shareware with a $15 fee. Black Box v1.2 Action:Black Box v1.2 ƒ 07/22/94 The object of the game is to determine the location of several objects hidden inside a two dimensional grid, the "black box". In order to accomplish this feat you have but one tool at your disposal, the ability to fire imaginary "rays" into the box. Since we can not see inside the box the only information we directly gather from the ray is it's entry point and it's exit point. It is what you deduce from this meager amount of information that allows you to confidently determine where the hidden objects are located. Bloodsuckers PPC Action:Bloodsuckers ƒ 07/26/94 This updates Bloodsuckers to v2.0 which is now PowerPC NATIVE! Weeee! It's in Fat Binary, so it'll still run on your 68k Mac. Bumper Ships 1.1 Action:Bumper Ships 1.1 ƒ 04/20/86 Bumper Ships allows two users to create a direct connection two-person game. Burglar 1.1 Action:Burglar 1.1 ƒ 02/07/94 B/W game that looks like Lode Runner. JetFrog 3.0.4 c Action:JetFrog 3.0.4 c ƒ 01/08/94 You were just an ordinary frog, not a Kermit, but you knew your place in the swamp. Until you found a jetpack under a lily pad and you became JetFrog: Lord of the Flies! Pick up the quest of JetFrog in this shareware game. The controls are simple. The numeric keypad, the arrow keys, or the keyboard control you. Every 15 flies you go to the next level. (The order of the levels is Beach, Jungle, Mountain, Sky) Every so often, a big fly will appear and will posthumously leave you treasure boxes. If you get a box, either nothing will happen, your tongue will lengthen, or you will get bonus points. Jetpack Act…

QuarkXPress 3.11 Contents Release Notes................................................................................................................1 Update Instructions ........................................................................................................2 Problems Solved in QuarkXPress 3.11 ..........................................................................3 Known Incompatibilities Between QuarkXPress 3.1 and Other Software/Hardware .....4 QuarkFreebies 3.1 .........................................................................................................5 Release Notes The QuarkXPress 3.11 Updater has been released by Quark to correct problems found in QuarkXPress 3.1. Please read the following information carefully to ensure a successful update of your QuarkXPress 3.1 program. We apologize for any inconvenience these problems may have caused you. The QuarkFreebies collection contains 11 XTensions that provide an array of enhancements for your QuarkXPress pro- gram. For a complete list of the QuarkFreebies XTensions and a brief description of what they do, please refer to page five of this document. If you are using Adobe Type Manager , it is imperative that you install version 2.0 or greater (2.0.3 for 68040-based Macs, 2.0.2 for other Macs with 32-bit addressing on) before you update your QuarkXPress 3.1 program. When you launch QuarkXPress 3.11 the program will warn you if you are running an incompatible version of ATM. Please do not ignore this warning! Incompatible versions of ATM will cause QuarkXPress to crash! Contact Adobe for version 2.0 or above. When updating your copy of ATM, be sure to update both the init file (~ATM 68020/030) and the control panel (~ATM). Check your ATM control panel for font cache size. You should allow 50K for each font you expect to be on the screen at the same time. Bold, italic, and bold-italic versions count toward the total. The font cache should always be 256k or more. When opening documents with QuarkXPress 3.11, some users may get the message, “This document requires minor repairs”; the only option is to go ahead and repair the file. This message has just been introduced in QuarkXPress 3.11, and is a valid message. Please be assured, clicking “Repair” is a good thing; using the file in its current state could be detrimental to that file’s health. The damage that is being repaired is not something that is caused by any particular document construction techniques of the user. In short, the “repairs” are done for minor corruptions in the documents internal file structure, which a typical user can neither fore- see nor prevent. The following errors are among those which can cause the message to occur: • Invalid color in a document: the item will be set to black • Text format specification (style, size, font, etc.) is bad: a valid style will be substituted • Paragraph format spec…

Macintosh Quadra Built-In Video There have been quite a few questions in this (and other) news groups concerning the built-in video capabilities of the new Macintosh Quadra 700 and 900. In response to these questions, here is an article which provides an in-depth (and accurate!) description of the Quadra video capabilities. This article discusses a number of general Quadra video topics, details how to wire the video connector sense pins to access all the Quadra's supported video modes, and describes the memory configurations necessary to support each of the video modes at specific pixel depths. (And by the way, since I designed the video hardware for both Mac Quadras, you can be reasonably sure this information is accurate.) [Note: You may want to use a mono-spaced, 10-point font to ensure that that that tables in the following sections are formatted correctly.] General Quadra Video Design Philosophy -------------------------------------- The Quadras were designed with a flexible video hardware section in order to support a wide variety of displays. Since the purchaser of one of these CPUs is paying for a frame buffer on the motherboard (whether (s)he wants it or not), and since the Quadras were designed to be high performance machines, the frame buffer was designed to be both very flexible (to support most displays a user may want to use) and to be relatively high performance (to match the computer's capabilities). Obviously every display made by every 3rd party monitor vendor can't be supported by the onboard video, but the Quadras do support a much wider range of displays at a higher level of performance than any previous Macintosh. The Quadra 700 and 900 support pixel depths ranging from 1 to 32 bits per pixel (bpp), Apple displays ranging from the 512 x 384 12-inch color monitor through the 1152 x 870 21-inch color monitor, pixel clocks ranging from 12 to 100 MHz, and a variety of industry standards such as VGA, SVGA, NTSC, and PAL. The Mac Quadra video port produces RS-343 RGB, and also provides horizontal, vertical and composite sync outputs. Composite or S-video output is not provided, but can be accomplished by use of an external RGB-to-composite encoder. The Quadra 700 and 900 also support Apple convolution for flicker-reduction on interlaced displays (i.e., NTSC and PAL) at up to 8 bpp. The Mac Quadras automatically detect the type of display attached to the video connector via 3 'sense' pins on the video connector. Depending on the wiring of these 3 pins, software in ROM configures the video hardware for one the supported display types. (A full description of sense pin wiring and supported display types follows later in this article.) The Quadra 700/900 provide the highest built-in video performance of any Macintosh CPU to date. In a (very) simplified graphics model, we could say that performance depends on two main factors: processor horsepower and the bandwidth the processor has into frame buffer memory. These machines already…

What is General Edit? General Edit is a file utility for Mac OS designed to help programmers and other software professionals view or edit data files with complex binary formats. Advantages of General Edit: *** Quick insight into data structure contents. *** Easier than studying MPW’s dumpfile output. *** Faster debugging with clear display of data. *** Saves coding time with direct data editing. What are the benefits? • General Edit provides quick and clear insight into data structure contents; this benefits software engineers who previously marked up data file listings by hand or wrote custom programs to analyze files. • Software testers can use General Edit to examine and verify a program’s exact file output and to modify files for test cases. • The tool especially benefits users who develop or test applications that read or write files in a custom format; debugging is faster and programmers can save coding time with General Edit’s features for direct data viewing and editing. • After a programmer has defined a file format, technical support staffers can use General Edit to analyze or repair files that have been corrupted or to help diagnose customers’ problems. • MIS engineers can use General Edit to analyze the structure of files of unknown origin and to help extract data from “legacy” files when the original program is no longer available. General Edit is a powerful alternative to simple hex or ASCII file editors. The user types familiar, C-like statements to specify the file format. The format is checked and compiled interactively and the tool immediately displays the file’s contents in one or more formats. The file’s format specification can be saved separately and re-used. What the users say: “…the program is quite effective in its purpose…I find the easy accessibility of the file structure to be a great advantage…” “I have found General Edit to be a very useful tool…” “I really like this product. It fills a gap in my suite of development tools that I have had to hand code in the past.” “You have a powerful product here. The many utilities that are within my grasp greatly facilitate my workings with file formats. I look forward to using it for all of my file format editing.” “The power to really examine the file as shown by your default resource fork structure definitions, is awesome. This is a really cool tool!” Indications that you could save time and benefit from using General Edit: * You develop or test applications that read or write files in a custom format. * You use tools such as MPW’s dumpfile tool to analyze files. * You have to debug problems such as your program failing when it reads certain files. * You have to repair or analyze files that have been corrupted. * You need to analyze the structure of files of unknown origin. Example window: How General Edit works: 1) Define your file format a) Easy, familiar C-like statements. b) Complex format…
