Mac OS X Server Installer To install Mac OS X Server, click Continue, and then follow the onscreen instructions. To quit, choose Quit Installer from the Installer menu and click Startup Disk. Advice about installing Mac OS X Server Installing without a router During the setup of Mac OS X Server you will be prompted to enter a network router address. If you do not have a router in your network, enter the IP address of the server as the router address. Erasing and formatting your disk When you install Mac OS X Server, you can choose to erase the destination disk you select. In the "Select a Destination" pane of the Installer, click the Options button. Select Erase and Install and then choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. Be sure you have backed up your files before you erase the disk. You can also divide your hard disk into several partitions before you install Mac OS X Server. Choose Open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and click Partition. Important Partitioning the disk erases the entire disk, so be sure to back up your files first. If you have problems starting up If you cannot start up your computer after you install Mac OS X Server, insert the Mac OS X Server disc and restart your computer while pressing the C key. Erasing and formatting your disk You can erase and install Mac OS X Server on your hard disk using Disk Utility. NOTICE: If you erase the destination disk, everything on the disk— your accounts, network settings, and all of your files and folders— will be deleted. Before you erase your disk, quit the Installer and back up any files you want to keep. To open Disk Utility: 1. From the Installer, choose Utilities > Disk Utility. Select the disk you want to erase. 2. Choose a disk format. In most cases you should chose Mac OS Extended (Journaled). 3. Give your disk a name, and then click Erase. Customizing your installation If you see a message that you don't have enough disk space to install Mac OS X Server, deselect items to be installed, such as printer drivers, to save space.
