Read Me 1995 Page 1 of 1 Saved: Friday, August 25, 1995 4:49:14 AM The Tesla Game Kit Copyright 1994-1995 Chris K. Thomas. All Rights Reserved. I'm at ckt@best.com. Well, I've been going through my old archives, and I found this. It's a demo game creation source code kit I wrote as a demo for MacPlay over a year ago. It includes: * a sprite toolkit optimized for sidescrolling arcade games, PixelBlizzard * a sound engine capable of rudimentary music and sound effects, SSE * a polygon hit testing engine to be used with the sprite toolkit, PolyMan * a sample game using the C++ application psuedo-framework I was also using for Misebirakasu at the time, MITORI Warrior * some amusing fps estimates (1500 fps! yow!) and a wildly inaccurate fps counter. I was still learning C++ at this time, so wierdness in the framework is likely. Project file for CodeWarrior 68k (probably DR/2, before the new data-fork based file format!) included. It was written, as I recall, over a period of two weeks, and is slightly incomplete as a result. Freeware, on the condition that you give me credit in your about box if you do use this for anything. I have no plans to update this stuff, as I'm building a C++ game framework, completely unrelated to this project. (MacPlay never got back to me, BTW. :P :P )

Read Me — HyperDither 1.2 March 1, 2008 http://www.tinrocket.com/software/hyperdither/ Author: John Balestrieri, Tinrocket, LLC Introduction What does HyperDither do? Short Answer: HyperDither implements the "Atkinson" dithering matrix as an OS X application. Long Answer: HyperDither is an OS X image processing utility that converts color or grayscale images to 1 bit black & white using a sophisticated dithering routine. Specifically, HyperDither implements the “Atkinson” dithering filter. Years ago, during the development of the first Macintosh, Bill Atkinson (of HyperCard, QuickDraw, MacPaint & now nature photography fame) discovered a very elegant dithering filter to convert greyscale image data to the 1 bit black & white Mac video display. The dithering produced by this routine was much higher quality than the now-a-days ubiquitous Floyd-Steinberg or “Error-diffusion” filter (used by QuickTime, PhotoShop). The dither matrix was implemented as an option in Appleʼs long-lost HyperScan software (A HyperCard stack with some XCMDs/XFCNs) that would connect an early Mac to a flatbed scanner. HyperScan, and hence the most-excellent Atkinson dithering routine, has been unavailable for many, many years — but not forgotten! I was able to email Bill Atkinson in January, 2003 and inquire about the details of the algorithm; he was kind enough to respond with a brief write up of the routine — 15 minutes later I had it up and running. Itʼs taken a few spare afternoons since 2003 to pack everything into a nice little application with documentation and an icon — better late than never! *The implementation is not as efficient as the original assembly language code, since it was written in a higher-level language and compiled without optimizations. That said, it should still be plenty fast enough. Pricing The cost of HyperDither is $0.00. (Free to use and own, but not in the public domain) System Requirements HyperDither was developed on OS X 10.4.10 — earlier system versions back to OS X 10.3 should work, but have not been tested. HyperDither is a Universal application, which means it will run natively on PowerPC and Intel Macs. Installation Drag the HyperDither application icon to your Applications folder. Usage HyperDither is pretty straight-forward to use. Launch it and drag or paste an image into the main window! If the picture you've pasted in is bigger than the window, the mouse cursor will turn to a hand cursor and let you scroll the image. A few menu options will now be available: File Menu: New Window — Makes a new HyperDither window for you to paste/drag images or a drag folder into. Open — Select an image for processing Batch Process a Folder — Select a folder for batch dithering. Once you select your folder, you will be prompted for the save location. The batch processed images will be placed into a new folder. Save — Saves the current HyperDither image as a PNG file in the location of your choosing. Options menu: Sharpen …

Adam’s Ultimate NoCD Patch Kit The Template) The Applescript titled Template includes every scenario I’ve run into over the years and can be modified to handle the following: 1. Apps in OSX that will run off of img/iso/dmg images. (This is how it is configured currently). These do not need any special handling of Classic, Screen Resolutions or The Dock. These will mount the image, start the app/game and then unmount the image after the app/game is done being run. 2. Classic Apps. These Need Classic to be started before the app/game is launched to avoid the image being prematurely unmounted. 3. Special Screen Modes. These are unique as them must be saved as an app-bundle and the included Cscreen executable must be placed in the “Resources” folder within that bundle. These will change the screen to, for example, 640x480 at 256 colors, or perhaps 800x600 at “Thousands of Colors (16-bit). The screen will be changed back to normal once operation has ceased. This can also be very helpful for Flash based games in OSX that run slow at full screen resolution. 4. Dock Hiding. Some apps/games (often Classic at low resolution) will not adequately raise their z-value to ‘float’ above all desktop items like the dock. This can be very distracting to see items on the dock react as the mouse gets too close. This part of the process when activated hides the dock and also unhides it after operation is finished. 5. On-Image App/Game Launch. An alternate line of code that allows games that cannot be installed but will run, to be launched directly off the mounted image. Any combination of the above can occur and the modules of “Template” can be commented in and out to make use of whatever functions are needed. Toast Images) Some apps/games cannot be fooled by mounting a normal disk image and require help from Toast. A small secondary app is included called gmMntr that uses a 3rd party app called ToastMount to borrow parts of Toast to seamlessly mount Toast images as though they were actual CDs/DVDs. As is often the case, locking the images is usually required, or Toast will see them as a CD-R/DVD-R. If the Template is calling gmMntr, it is first necessary to edit its “main.scpt” file within /Contents/Resorces/Scripts and put the name of the image and save (Don’t overwrite the bundle itself, or it will break functionality!). gmMntr should then be placed inside the folder with both the NoCD launcher, app/game and disk image. NOTE: sometimes it is not necessary to have an actual ‘Toast’ image to use Toast’s functionality. This will often work also with ISOs. Helpful Apps Included) are: FastIcns: Very good for quickly making custom icons for NoCD launchers. The actual app/game can either be used to create a file-fork icon, or an actual icns file if a Cscreen app-bundle is being mad…

Farallon Computing, Inc. Replica for Macintosh Release Notes January 13, 1994 These release notes are a Replica copy of a Microsoft Word document. To scan for specific information, use the Find command in the Search menu. The following information does not appear in the Replica for Macintosh User’s Guide. If you have questions, call Farallon Technical Support at (510) 814-5000. The release notes cover the following topics: • General information about the features of Replica. • Problems you may experience when using Replica with specific applications. Solutions or work-arounds are provided where possible. General Information Cross-platform sharing of Replica copies Replica documents can be viewed by users of Replica for Macintosh or Replica for Windows, regardless of which version of Replica was used to create the Replica document. For best results, be sure to use Replica for Windows 1.0.1 on Windows PCs. You can always open a Replica document from within the Replica for Macintosh Viewer application. Just choose Open from the File menu, select the desired file in the directory dialog box, and click the Open button. While you can double-click the icon for a Macintosh-created Replica document in the Finder in order to launch the Replica Viewer and open the file automatically, there are some instances where Replica for Windows-created documents cannot be opened and viewed automatically by double-clicking on their icons in the Finder. If you would like the added convenience of Replica for Windows copies that can be opened directly from the Finder, transfer copies to or from your PC in one of the following ways: • Use Microsoft Mail or AppleShare. These applications automatically add appropriate information to the Replica for Windows files so that they display the Replica icon in your Macintosh Finder and open when you double-click them. • Use a file translation application such as PC Exchange (Apple Computer) or Access PC (Insignia Solutions). These enable a Macintosh to read and write to PC-formatted disks. They create the proper resource information so that the PC files are assigned Macintosh Finder icons and can be double-clicked to launch the corresponding Macintosh applications. To make these applications work with Replica, you’ll need to enter the following information about Replica files in the appropriate dialog box: Macintosh Creator: REP! Macintosh Type: FRL! DOS file extension: .RPL For more precise instructions, consult the documentation that accompanied your file translation software.
