Navigating Planet Arizona http://web.mit.edu/emitchel/Public/ZU/computer/az-hand.htm Navigating Planet Arizona Scenario You are a space creature. You have fallen asleep and crashed your ship on the mysterious planet of Arizona. Your ship is badly damaged. Your on-board computer can repair the ship, but it requires that you locate certain materials for it to use when performing the repairs. After you locate those materials, you will be able to leave the planet. Task You must find the following: a ring-shaped container, flexible tubing, copper nuggets, machine oil made from a plant, a timepiece, a large, flat piece of fiberglass, and steel pipe. It is not enough to just see these materials-you must take them into your possession. Most of the materials will be given to you by people-others you will find on your own. Quick Start Talk Use the console to talk. Look Drag the trackpoint to look around the scenery. Move Click on the spot where the cursor turns into a hand. Click on the object's icon. Then click on the person Give you would like to give the object to. Save Type 's' to save the game. Titles Type 't' to turn subtitles on or off. Click on the rapidly moving purple planet on the Load opening screen. Quit Type <Ctrl>+q to quit the game. Detailed Instructions The Console The console is the device that enables you to communicate with your computer and with the people of Planet Arizona. It looks vaguely like a car radio with buttons on the bottom. If the console temporarily disappears from view, you can call it back by double clicking on the small console icon on the lower right part of the screen (the small icon actually looks more like a letter slot). Speaking To "speak", use the trackpoint to select one of the canned phrases from the center of the console. After you select the phrase, click on it and the computer will pronounce the phrase. Listening After you speak, a character may reply. If you have the subtitles turned on, you will see the character's words appear in the space above the console. If you have the subtitles turned off, you will not see any 1 of 5 16/09/16 5:28 PM Navigating Planet Arizona http://web.mit.edu/emitchel/Public/ZU/computer/az-hand.htm words. To toggle the subtitles on and off, type "t". To ask a character to repeat a phrase, click on the back arrow circle on the right edge of the console, beside the red dot. Words …

Introduction to Neatnik What is Neatnik? Neatnik is a utility for neatening up folder windows. You might call it a “folder window wrangler”; it whips your folder windows into shape, setting their position, size and “View” options according to your preferences. Because it processes multiple folders at a time (even a whole disk’s worth, if you like), it saves you the time and effort of setting up your windows one at a time. Who will have a use for Neatnik? • Well, people who like things neat, for starters. • Everyone else. As the power and capacity of our computers increases, the amount of information and the number of files we own increases. Too much information with too little organization results in wasted time and effort. Neatnik is a tool for visually organizing your desktop. Neatnik will save you from infoglut. • People preparing a CD-ROM or floppy disk for publication will appreciate Neatnik as an easy and automated way to prepare the disk so that its folders open in neatly arranged positions, and with their other characteristics set up consistently. • With the introduction of Mac OS 8, Neatnik becomes more widely useful. There are now many different ways to view the contents of a folder, and each folder can be different. But setting these “view” options is often a chore. Mac OS 8.5 allows you to set a folder to “Standard Views”, or alternatively to set each of its options individually. With Neatnik you can set a easily set the view characteristics, as well as the size and position attributes, of a batch of folders, based upon the characteristics you set for the “parent” folder -- the folder that contains the other folders. Minimum Requirements: Neatnik requires the scriptable Finder. The Finder in System 7.5.x and 7.6.x is scriptable, provided the extension “Finder Scripting Extension” is included in your Extensions folder. This extension is part of the standard System installation. Mac OS 8.0 and later don’t require this extension. Cost of Neatnik: Neatnik is shareware and costs $10.00. You can pay for it with credit card by e-mail, telephone, fax or postal mail, or with a check by postal mail. See the section of these instructions entitled “Paying for Neatnik” for full information. This Manual: These instructions are divided into a few sections. You can go to the next section, “Using Neatnik”, by clicking the right scroll-arrow below, or by selecting the next section from the “Contents” menu above. Neatnik Manual Page 1 Tue, Oct 18, 2022 Using Neatnik: The first thing to understand about using Neatnik is that it works from a “parent window”. Your first step in using Neatnik would be to set up one folder window the way you want it in terms of position, size, and View settings. Then you would launch Neatnik and in Neatnik’s Preferences dialog, set which characteristics of the parent folder window you would like to be adopted by the folders contained within that pa…
