Yes, equill, the backups have been there from early on. There is a link in the upper left corner marked "Download Last Databse Backup.csv"

As the title indicates, it is in a .csv format since most databases know how to deal with importing a .csv file and it is the default output of BasePortal. It should import into almost any version of FM easily, but let me know.

I just wish there were more entries for you to sort! Particularly of those rare freaks like the Platinum 512Ke! But I am one to talk as I have not catalogued all of my M0001's either ...

Just thought I would resurrect this old thread. I've just been looking at the M0001 registry again and it seems that most of the later registrations are spam, with adverts for drugs etc. Any chance that these could be removed, because they kind of bring down this otherwise excellent database?

I know. I just discovered this myself on Saturday. I removed about 200 SPAM entries, only to find last night that 150 new ones had appeared.

The BasePortal discussion boards indicates a problem with SPAM back in February, which didn't seem to affect M0001, and how the SPAM filters weren't handling it. It looks like it caught up with M0001 or this is yet some new diabolical SPAM robot in the ever evolving nefarious plot to ruin the internet for the rest of us by sleazy merchants who count on the low IQ of the masses for their existence.

Unfortunately it is not easy to delete an entry, for obvious reasons. However, unless they figure out a way to stop this kind of SPAM, an easier way to remove it is in order. I may have to move it to another link the SPAM robots haven't found but this will be transparent for most. If that doesn't work, then it may have to be suspended and I may have to take manual submissions, or require registration to BasePortal, which may or may not stop the SPAM and might deter someone from entering their info freely.

It's always something.

It's unlucky really, I myself administered an online discussion forum for a while and the number of bogus registrations it received was unbelievable. Fortunately I had it set up so that I had to personally approve registration before someone could post, which was a good way to snare the robots as they were nearly always easy to identify.

Think I figured out a simple work around to the spam. Since I am archiving it anyway, it means some additional routine maintenance. So keep registering those Macs!

P.S. Anyone who has registered a Mac, double check it is still on the list. I don't think I lost any but you never know.

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I just noticed that http://www.mac128.com/m0001 no longer responds. I wanted to add my latest conquest, a good looking (though not booting) original Macintosh.

It looks like mac128.com was/is hosted on MobileMe, which is going bye-bye… Mac128, any plans to host it elsewhere?

No necromancy, that's why this thread is here, for periodic updates.

Have no idea what happened. I think it had something to do with changes Apple made to iWeb, and simultaneous cancellation of services of my old ISP web-disk space this Summer.

But fixed now. (I think). God knows what's going to happen when iCloud goes into effect this Fall, but I'll keep my eye on it. Still trying to figure out the old Apple "homepage" websites when they moved to dot mac ...

Thanks for being diligent and maintaining the database!!

I don't know what God really knows… But Apple makes it pretty clear:

What happens to the iWeb sites that I’ve published to MobileMe?You will be able to continue publishing iWeb sites to MobileMe through June 30, 2012, even after moving to iCloud. With iWeb you can easily move a site published to MobileMe to another web hosting service and you should do so before that date. Please read this article for details.

Looks like you'll have to look for another host, and maybe another publishing tool!

There will be significant (about nine months) overlap between the end of the old iWeb/iDisk services and the start of the new iCloud stuff. So I'm going to wait until iCloud starts up and see what can be done. But it looks like the .Mac homepage URLs will stop working regardless.

This sucks for me -- I have two pretty well-known homepage sites that have a lot of links to them. I guess I'll look into a domain name for my Apple Macintosh before System 7 site.

I think there's no question about it if this article is accurate:

Basically Apple is abandoning personal web hosting. This explains the lack of development for iWeb. Surely then iWeb will be dropped from the next version of iLife. Though I should still be able to use it to generate a web site for posting to another host. Just won't be as simple as iWeb to make updates. Can't say I'm surprised. Not the first time Apple has provided a set of tools they yanked away because the user base wasn't as large as they hoped. What happened to offering a service for the customer whether or not it was utilized? It's just server space as a part of the total allocation offered to the customer anyway, why should Apple care if someone wants to use it for a personal website?

Oh well, one more thing I'm gonna have to do ...

iWeb already *HAS* been dropped. It's not available as part of iLife on the App Store, and isn't pre-installed any more on new Macs. It's latest version has been the same for two iLife revisions (plus bug updates.)

Same goes for iDVD. Hasn't been updated, not on the App Store, not shipping on new (Lion-equipped) Macs.

I'll probably move my website to NearlyFreeSpeech. I hosted my business website there for years.

Interesting approach -- I had not heard of that -- might make sense. I'm lazy and prefer to just pay once and then not think about it for two years or whatever. I've been happy with BlueHost and DreamHost. I think I prefer DreamHost, but only slightly -- certainly not enough to get me to go to the trouble of moving my BlueHost stuff over.

I ran my small business website hosted on NearlyFreeSpeech, and $50 lasted me nearly five years; five years that my business was doing fairly well. (Of course, I had the website designed to be as low-bandwidth as possible.) I put another $50 in, and it lasted the next five years until I sold the business, and I still had over $20 left in at the time.

I entered my Macintosh 128k with original Macintosh rear bucket, serial number F4410PMM0001, original logic board, analog board, floppy drive, and CRT, and I did it twice only for it to disappear both times. I would wait for a month and it would go from being on there to not being there anymore, and I am beginning to wonder if it has something against my 128k. I posted all sorts of pictures of it when I was trying to get it working to prove that it's there and it really exists in 2010/2011 (see topic "I have diagnosed my problem (as much as is possible)...") and I cannot for the life of me understand why the Registry refuses to keep track of mine.

My serial number decodes as the 803rd manufactured in the 41st week of 1984 (roughly September 30th/October 1st 1984) in Fremont, California, USA. I really have it and I even bought it a carrying case.

I hope I did not offend anyone.
